PURPOSE: To describe the clinical features of Proteus syndrome, a rare recently recognized hamartoneoplastic malformation, with emphasis on the ocular findings.
METHODS: Complete physical and ocular examination of two new patients with Proteus syndrome.
RESULTS: The two reported cases illustrate the wide clinical polymorphism of Proteus syndrome and the overlap of its clinical manifestations with those of other overgrowth syndromes. Both patients had periorbital exostoses and epibulbar tumors. The ocular findings are compared with those in the literature.
CONCLUSION: Considering the paucity

Medical losses from ophthalmological injuries inflicted by small arms were from 2.2 to 4.5%, and taking into account concomitant injuries--up to 5.6%. Frequently there were binocular lesions, perforating wounds and destructions of eyeballs. Complicated ophthalmological operations were performed on patients who simultaneously had severe injuries of extremities, chest, abdomen, etc. Vitrectomy was a basic stage in the treatment of eye-penetrating wounds. Usually, mitral valve prolapse is a benign condition, but there are some reports about ischemic cerebral or ocular insults. Two hundred and seventy-two patients with idiopathic blepharospasm were reviewed to establish the role of local eye disease in their illness. In a prospective study twenty patients with benign intracranial hypertension, 15 females and five males with mean age 34 years (range 12-61 years), were followed up from 12 to 61 months (mean 22 months). We report ophthalmological findings in 15 cases of nephropathia epidemica. The patients, 13 men and 2 women, were 20 to 62 (mean 30) years of age. The onset of the disease was characterized by high fever, nausea, headache, abdominal pain, backache, somnolence, red throat, proteinuria, and oliguria.
