The gas-phase strengths of the A-Cl(-) bonds in ACl(5)(-), ACl(4)F(-), and A(CH(3))(3)Cl(2)(-) (A = Si, Ge, and Sn) have been determined by measuring thresholds for collision-induced dissociation in a flowing afterglow-tandem mass spectrometer. Bond dissociation energies increase in the order Si < Ge < Sn. Replacement of the three equatorial chlorides with methyl groups weakens the bonds, while replacing one axial chloride with a fluoride strengthens the bonds. This study reports morphological and functional alterations observed in respiring isolated mitochondria when they are exposed to nonpenetrating, positive electrostatically charged synthetic undecagold clusters. Modification of the undecagold clusters positive charges change or prevent the functional effects and the binding to the outside surface of the mitochondria. Thirty-eight patients (76 legs) with suspected deep vein thrombosis were examined with 99Tcm-fibrinogen study (Tc-F), which consists of three parts: (1) radionuclide venography (RNV) of both legs after injection of 150 MBq of 99Tcm-fibrinogen into the dorsal veins of each foot, (2) blood pool imaging (BPI) at 5 to 20 min and (3) uptake imaging (UI) at 4 to 6 and 17 to 26 h. A total synthesis of (±)-phomactin B2 is described which has as its key step the intramolecular cyclohexadienone annulation of a Fischer carbene complex. The requisite carbene complex was prepared from geraniol in 11 steps and 12 % overall yield. The key cyclohexadienone annulation produced both rings of the [9.3.1] pentadecane ring system of phomactin B2 in a single step in 60% yield and as a 4:1 mixture of diastereomers. The formation of self-assemblies between CdSe quantum dots (QDs) and Zn phthalocyanines (Pc) and azaphthalocyanines (AzaPc) bearing alkylsulfanyl substituents and the photophysical properties of these assemblies were studied using both steady-state and time-resolved luminescence/absorption spectroscopy. A new impedimetric biosensing system based on kallikrein-related peptidase 4 (KLK 4) antigen-specific antibodies and a zinc(II) phthalocyanine tetracarboxylic acid (Zn-PcTCa) matrix material was developed for the first time in this study. An iron(II) complex with a pyridine-containing 14-membered macrocyclic (PyMAC) ligand L1 (L1 = 2,7,12-trimethyl-3,7,11,17-tetra-azabicyclo[11.3.1]heptadeca-1(17),13,15-triene), 1, was prepared and characterized. Redox couples based on cobalt complexes were found to be effective in regenerating both inorganic CdSe quantum dot- and organic dye-sensitizers. The hybrid sensitizer composed of CdSe QD and ruthenium sensitizer (Z907Na) dye showed a maximum power conversion efficiency of 4.76% on using cobalt(o-phen)(3)(2+/3+) as a common redox mediator.
