We developed the Visual Hand Display (VHD) to measure vision in visually impaired infants and young children. The VHD is a circular fabric mitten, which is held easily by inserting the hand between the two surfaces. Black-and-white stripes are attached to one surface, 25, 15, 10, 4, and 2 mm per stripe. The VHD acuity is determined by the shortest test distance and the smallest stripes that the patient can detect. The VHD acuities were compared with preferential looking (PL) staircase acuities in 130 patients (53 males, 77 females; age range, 2 to 13 years; median, 21.0 months). Of these, 107

BACKGROUND: Today, patients often expect to achieve spectacle independance after cataract surgery. New trifocal intraocular lenses have been developed to try and fullfill this demand. The purpose of this study is to report the short-term visual outcomes of a new trifocal intraocular lens (AcrySof PanOptix™).
METHODS: Consecutive adult patients undergoing cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of the study intraocular lens in a private practice clinic were considered for inclusion. Exclusion criteria were the presence of other ocular pathologies or preoperative astigmatism >1.5 diopters

This retrospective study aimed to identify the pattern of visual impairment in pituitary adenoma patients. Patients' eyes were categorized into four groups according to their visual acuity score. Trans-sphenoidal hypophysectomy was performed on all patients. Significant differences between groups were evaluated for visual field defects, visual symptoms duration, degree of suprasellar extension and tumour pathology. In the 201 patients (402 eyes) evaluated, 166 eyes had impaired visual acuity (45 eyes, < 4.0; 43 eyes, 4.0 - 4.4; and 78 eyes, 4.5 - 4.8), 236 eyes scored > 4.8 and were considered

A 66-year-old male patient presented to the ophthalmology department with bilateral blurred vision, which had persisted for 1 week. Due to a pulmonary melanoma metastasis, the patient received a combination treatment with dabrafenib and trametinib. At the first presentation visual acuity was 1.2 on the right and 1.0 on the left. A normotensive intraocular pressure was measured in both eyes. Fundoscopy showed bilateral white, areolar alterations in the choroid and choroid folds and in the left eye a bullous choroidal detachment. Bilateral neurosensory detachment and subretinal fluid were found

BACKGROUND: Orbital infection is an uncommon devastating infection and is usually a complication of paranasal sinus infection. Without appropriate treatment, orbital infection may lead to serious complications, even death. Prompt treatment is mandatory to avoid visual loss or intracranial complications. The literature shows that initially, intravenous antibiotics should be administered, and after 48 h, if no improvement appears, the affected orbit and the sinuses must be surgically drained. The authors describe two cases of orbital cellulitis with a brief literature review.

RATIONALE: Cataracts are a disease that is usually caused by aging and involve the irreversible degeneration of the lens material. On the other hand, transient cataracts have also been reported, mainly due to systemic hyperglycemia, which often occurs bilaterally. However, reports of the spontaneous regression of unilaterally occurring cataracts in patients with normal blood glucose levels are rare. Here, we report a rare case of spontaneous regression of unilateral posterior subcapsular cataracts in an adult with normal blood glucose levels.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 42-year-old woman presented wi
