Incorporating Patient Input into the Target Product Profile.

Target product profiles (TPP) are summaries of characteristics which drug developers expect to be necessary for a product to meet patients' needs, receive regulatory and payer approval, and differ from existing treatment options. As the experts on their own disease, patients bring invaluable perspectives to drug development, which cannot be obtained by other means. This communication reports on the development of a systematic guidance framework for a patient-focused, standardized TPP. The guidance was developed in a long-term iterative process, with crucial aspects reviewed and validated with

Enhancing patient research partner engagement: Research in psoriatic arthritis.

The perspective from individuals with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) can be beneficial to PsA research, increasing the likelihood that the results are meaningful and relevant to PsA patients. While there has been an advancement of patient research partner (PRP) involvement in PsA research over time, the effort is still in its infancy. Measures to ensure PRP engagement (PRPE) occurs and its impact evaluated need to be implemented routinely to increase PRPE in PsA research.

Shared Decision-Making in Acute Pain Services.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The implementation of shared decision-making (SDM) in acute pain services (APS) is still in its infancies especially when compared to other medical fields. RECENT FINDINGS: Emerging evidence fosters the value of SDM in various acute care settings. We provide an overview of general SDM practices and possible advantages of incorporating such concepts in APS, point out barriers to SDM in this setting, present common patient decisions aids developed for APS and discuss opportunities for further development. Especially in the APS setting, patient-centred care is a key component

The effectiveness of person-centred planning for people with intellectual disabilities: A systematic review.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the effectiveness of Person-Centred Planning (PCP) on outcomes for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ID) across the age range. METHOD: The electronic databases PsycInfo, Embase, CINHAL, PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus and Medline were searched for studies evaluating the impact of PCP on people with ID, published between 1990 and 2014; these were supplemented by manual searches of reference lists. Studies were considered irrespective of methodology, sample size and publication source, if outcomes reflected the impact of PCP on individuals with ID. RESULTS: Sev

Equitable Patient and Public Involvement Strategies for Scaling Health and Social Care Interventions: A Consensus Study Inspired by Delphi Methods.

BACKGROUND: Patient and public involvement (PPI) is recognized as essential for scaling interventions in health and social services, but there are few guidelines to support it. We sought consensus on strategies for involving patients and the public in scaling in an equitable and meaningful way. METHODS: We conducted a participatory consensus study inspired by Delphi techniques. We used as a starting point 23 PPI strategies for scaling (on the involvement continuum, from providing information to full co-production) as identified in a 2024 scoping review. First, we established a steering commit

Group Poetry and Quilt-Making -Creative Public Involvement Approaches to Contentious Concepts in Frailty Research.

INTRODUCTION: 'Frailty' as a concept is being increasingly integrated into healthcare, but the language around frailty is contentious and potentially stigmatising to patients. It is therefore important to understand how patients' lived experiences relate to the concept of frailty. We conducted 3 creative patient and public involvement (PPI) workshops to support the study, 'Exploring how the Electronic Frailty Index 2 (eFI2) can be best utilised in clinical practice.' Our aims for these workshops were to 1) improve our eFI2 project topic guide and data analysis 2) explore whether creative PPI c

Final rules.

We are revising the Medicare hospital inpatient prospective payment systems (IPPS) for operating and capital-related costs of acute care hospitals to implement changes arising from our continuing experience with these systems. Some of the changes implement certain statutory provisions contained in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (collectively known as the Affordable Care Act) and other legislation. These changes will be applicable to discharges occurring on or after October 1, 2013, unless otherwise specified in this f

From theory to practice in training health researchers in patient and public involvement: a scoping review protocol.

BACKGROUND: Patient and public involvement (PPI) aims to increase the relevance and impact of research by ensuring that outcomes align with the real needs of those involved. In PPI, the public actively participates in all stages of research, which has been shown to improve research quality, empower participants, and enrich researchers' understanding of patients' and the public's lived experiences. However, implementing PPI poses a challenge for many researchers, making training essential as it provides the necessary skills to incorporate PPI meaningfully into their projects. Thus, this review

Real-World Effectiveness and Safety of Daridorexant in Japanese Patients With Insomnia: A Multicenter Observational Study Evaluating Four-Week Changes in Athens Insomnia Scale Among 54 Participants.

Background Daridorexant, a dual orexin receptor antagonist (DORA), was recently approved in Japan for the treatment of insomnia. The drug has been shown to improve daytime functioning and has characteristics such as a lower risk of residual effects and rebound insomnia. Nevertheless, important exclusion criteria in clinical trials included patients with comorbid psychiatric disorders and those showing incomplete or insufficient responses to existing therapies. Therefore, this observational study assessed the effectiveness and safety of daridorexant in real-world settings for Japanese participa

Serum Angiopoietin-Like Protein 2 and NT-Pro BNP Levels and Their Associated Factors in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure Participating in a Phase III Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.

Angiopoietin-like protein 2 (ANGPTL2) promotes chronic inflammation and plays a key role in the pathogenesis of heart failure. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is an integral component of heart failure management and has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. However, ANGPTL2 concentration in chronic heart failure patients undergoing CR has not been evaluated. This study aimed to investigate serum ANGPTL2 levels and their associated factors and compare the results with those of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with chronic heart failure undergoing phase III CR
