Outcome of children with primary resistant or relapsed non-Hodgkin lymphoma and mature B-cell leukemia after intensive first-line treatment: a population-based analysis of the Austrian Cooperative Study Group.

BACKGROUND: Children and adolescents with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and mature B-cell leukemia (B-ALL) have an excellent prognosis with contemporary chemotherapy stratified according to the histologic subtype and clinical stage of disease. However, a small subset of patients does not respond to front-line therapy or suffers from an early relapse. PROCEDURE: A retrospective analysis was performed to assess the incidence, treatment, and outcome of all children with relapsed or progressed NHL and B-ALL diagnosed in Austria between 1986 and 2003 (n = 22/234). RESULTS: Nine of 140 (6.5%) patient

Association and progression of multi-morbidity with Chronic Kidney Disease stage 3a secondary to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, grouped by albuminuria status in the multi-ethnic population of Northwest London: A real-world study.

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of Diabetic Kidney Disease (DKD) secondary to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is rising worldwide. However, real-world data linking glomerular function and albuminuria to the degree of multi-morbidity is lacking. We thus utilised the Discover dataset, to determine this association. METHOD: Patients with T2DM diagnosed prior to 1st January 2015 with no available biochemical evidence of CKD were included. Patients subsequently diagnosed and coded for CKD3a in 2015, were grouped by the degree of albuminuria. Baseline and 5-year co-morbidity was determined, as were pr

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and HER2 dual blockade including biosimilar trastuzumab (SB3) for HER2-positive early breast cancer: Population based real world data from the Danish Breast Cancer Group (DBCG).

BACKGROUND: Dual blockade with trastuzumab and pertuzumab combined with neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) has been increasingly used for HER2-positive tumours >2 cm and/or with positive axillary lymph nodes in order to evaluate pathologic response and obtain better surgical management. SB3 is a registered biosimilar trastuzumab approved following a phase III trial demonstrating similar efficacy in the neoadjuvant setting as trastuzumab. However, the study was done without pertuzumab. METHOD: The database of the Danish Breast Cancer Group was used to extract data on all patients who started NACT

A population-based case-referent study of myocardial infarction and occupational exposure to motor exhaust, other combustion products, organic solvents, lead, and dynamite. Stockholm Heart Epidemiology Program (SHEEP) Study Group.

This case-referent study investigated the risk of myocardial infarction from occupational exposure to motor exhaust, other combustion products, organic solvents, lead, and dynamite. We identified first-time, nonfatal myocardial infarctions among men and women 45-70 years of age in Stockholm County from 1992 through 1994. We selected referent subjects from the population to match the demographic characteristics of the cases. A lifetime history of occupations was obtained by questionnaire. The response rate was 81% for the cases and 74% for the referents, with 1,335 cases and 1,658 referents inc

Italian multicentre study of carpal tunnel syndrome: clinical-neurophysiological picture and diagnostic pathway in 461 patients and differences between the populations enrolled in the northern, central and southern centres. Italian CTS Study Group.

The economic trend in our country, as in other countries, now requires us to pay more attention to the social and economic aspects of health. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the diagnostic pathway and the socioeconomic aspects of pathologies. The Italian CTS Study Group performed a wide multicentre and multidimensional study (through a patient-, physician- and neurophysiologically oriented evaluation) on 461 idiopathic CTS patients to evaluate the clinical-neurophysiological picture and the diagnostic pathway. The whole population and the differences between the populations enrolled in

Opinion on the re-evaluation of pectin (E 440i) and amidated pectin (E 440ii) as food additives in foods for infants below 16 weeks of age and follow-up of their re-evaluation as food additives for uses in foods for all population groups.

Pectin (E 440i) and amidated pectin (E 440ii) were re-evaluated in 2017 by the former EFSA Panel on Food Additives and Nutrient sources added to Food (ANS). As a follow-up to this assessment, the Panel on Food Additives and Flavourings (FAF) was requested to assess the safety of pectins (E 440i,ii) for their uses as food additives in food for infants below 16 weeks of age. In addition, the FAF Panel was requested to address the issues already identified during the re-evaluation of the same food additive. The process involved the publication of a call for data to allow the interested business o

Distribution of fasting serum insulin measured by enzyme immunoassay in an unselected population of 4,032 individuals. Reference values according to age and sex. D.E.S.I.R. Study Group. Données Epidémiologiques sur le Syndrome d'Insulino-Résistance.

As hyperinsulinaemia has been shown to be a risk factor for non-insulin-dependent diabetes, cardiovascular disease and hypertension, the measurement of serum insulin levels may provide an additional early screening test for these diseases. Biological assaying of insulin is now facilitated by the IMx-Abbott kit, an enzyme immunoassay which does not cross-react with proinsulin and thus provides more specific insulin determination than conventional methods. Fasting insulin concentrations were determined in a population of 4,032 men and women 30 to 64 years of age, all volunteers for a medical che
