Long-term memory consolidation or reconsolidation impairment induces amnesia with key characteristics that are similar to key learning characteristics.

According to a common perspective, amnesia is a passive consequence of memory consolidation or reconsolidation impairment. The results of our own study, as well as literature data, allowed us to offer an interpretation of amnesia. Amnesia is an active process whose key characteristics are similar to those of other long-term plastic rearrangements of the brain, including learning processes. In accordance with this hypothesis, the review considers the data we obtained on the mechanisms of amnesia induction and development caused by impairment of conditioned food aversion memory consolidation or

Yang Kuo-Shu and the Indigenous Movements of Psychology in China From the Perspective of History.

Yang Kuo-Shu-widely regarded as the Father of Chinese Indigenous Psychology-was the central figure in a four-decade movement that sought to reorient psychological research within Chinese societies toward culturally grounded foundations. The movement succeeded in establishing institutional infrastructures, cultivating successive generations of scholars, and producing a substantial corpus of studies attentive to local meanings and practices. Yet, this article argues that its ultimate aspiration-to construct an autonomous Chinese psychological system-remained unfulfilled. Drawing on extensive arc

Understanding Cumulative Life Course Impairment in Canadian Patients With Psoriasis.

Cumulative life course impairment (CLCI) is the irreversible harm resulting from the chronic burden of disease, such as psoriasis. This cumulative impact encompasses physical, psychological, social, and emotional challenges that can significantly alter the life trajectory of a patient with psoriasis. The risk of CLCI and the impact of living with psoriasis are exacerbated when the disease is inadequately managed. Even with improvements in skin symptoms, psychological factors, such as anxiety about relapse, can persist, adding to the long-term burden. The development and validation of screening

Association Between Psychological Distress and Glycaemic Control Among Adults with Diabetes Mellitus in Saudi Arabia.

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder often accompanied by psychological distress, including stress, anxiety, and depression. Such emotional symptoms can influence self-care behaviours and metabolic control. In Saudi Arabia, cultural and religious practices may mitigate the effects of psychological distress on glycaemic regulation. Limited evidence exists regarding the simultaneous assessment of depression, anxiety, and stress in relation to objective glycaemic indicators such as HbA1c among adults with diabetes in Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to determine the associa

[Aesthetic surgery and "psychological therapy" in Argentina during the first half of the twentieth century].

This article aims to analyze the construction of aesthetic surgery as a "psychological therapy" among Argentine plastic surgeons in the first half of the twentieth century. To this end, it analyzes expert and popular medical publications produced by these specialists. The article begins by raising a legal controversy surrounding the therapeutic value of aesthetic surgery. Based on this controversy, it analyzes the psychological justifications put forward in the medical literature and some case narratives that demonstrate the "preventive" nature of these practices. It concludes with a discussio

The psychological ramifications of weight management.

It has long been believed that food restriction leads to psychological disturbances, including depression, preoccupation with food, and binge eating. However, recent studies suggest that comprehensive weight loss programs that incorporate behavioral treatment, diet change, and encouragement of physical activity in fact can improve the psychological state, including mood. A study conducted on subjects participating in the Weight Watchers program demonstrated positive psychological changes and improved quality of life. These changes may help motivate overweight people to maintain the physical ac

Impact of Cardiac Rehabilitation and Exercise Training on Psychological Risk Factors and Subsequent Prognosis in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease.

The role of psychological risk factors has been under-recognized in most subspecialties of medicine, as well as in general medicine practices. However, considerable evidence indicates that psychosocial factors are involved in the pathogenesis and progression of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Emerging data from cardiac rehabilitation (CR) settings and CR exercise training (CRET) programs have demonstrated the value of comprehensive CRET to improve psychological functioning and reduce all-cause mortality. Recent evidence also supports the role of CRET and the added value of stress management trai

The functional neuroimaging of meditation: A quantitative whole-brain meta-analysis and systematic review.

The study of meditation has grown considerably in academic research, including robust findings demonstrating its positive impact on several domains of psychological well-being. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) studies have provided evidence for neural correlates underlying these effects; however, there has not yet been a comprehensive whole-brain meta-analytic synthesis across meditation practices combined with a meta-analytic comparison to identify their unique neural correlates. Therefore, in accordance with the pre-registration protocol with the International Prospective Registe
