Serological evidence of infection with influenza A and B viruses was sought during three successive winters. Paired sera from 1595 pregnant women were studied and 79 infections occurred in 77 women (4.8%). A further 77 women who had no serological evidence of recent influenza infection were selected from the study population to serve as a control group. In a prospective study of death in 817 patients with haematemesis and melaena admitted on 894 occasions, the protocol included admission of all patients to a defined unit, early endoscopy and resuscitation, and planned management. Results are reported from the first prospective study of gout in New Zealand Maoris based on a sample of 388 males and 378 females. INTRODUCTION: Although most patients with fibromyalgia describe periods of exacerbation of their symptomatology, there are very few studies describing its characteristics.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We recruited a total of 124 patients from our outpatient clinics who agreed to a follow-up of at least 6 months. All of them were asked to note and describe whether they had had any worsening of their symptoms during that time.
