Psychometric properties of the Curiosity and Exploration Inventory-II among Kenyan adolescents.

INTRODUCTION: Curiosity is a fundamental trait that drives exploration, motivation, learning, and growth. However, research on this character strength in sub-Saharan African populations is very scarce. To address this gap in the literature, we sought to determine the psychometric properties of the Curiosity and Exploration Inventory- II (CEI-II), a measure for trait curiosity, to provide evidence of validity for its use in research among populations in sub-Saharan Africa. We also aimed to assess for demographic and psychosocial correlates of curiosity among Kenyan high school students. METHOD

Psychometric properties of inhibitory control measures among youth with Down syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Inhibitory control measures have been commonly used when assessing individuals with Down syndrome. However, minimal attention ha … ility for analogue tasks rather than computerised assessments of inhibitory control. Given the weak psychometrics of several common measures, future studies are required to evaluate other inhibitory control measures, specifically those with reduced working memory demands for youth with Down syndrome. Recommendations for use of the inhibitory control tasks among …

Further Examination of the Psychometric Properties of the Current Experiences Scale and Model of Resiliency.

BACKGROUND: Stress-related disease is increasing, with high resilience proposed as protective. Whilst the Current Experiences Scale (CES) shows promise as a measure of resilience, its psychological correlates and relationship to psychological stress remain unclear. OBJECTIVES: (1) Further explore the psychometric properties of the CES, (2) identify modifiable psychological factors associated with the CES and (3) test a previously published model for the influence of adaptive strategies and stress management factors on resiliency and stress. METHODS: N = 455 individuals (mean age = 47.8, 65.1

Measuring Adolescent Chronic Stress: A Review of Established Biomarkers and Psychometric Instruments.

Adolescence is a period of stressful physiological and psychosocial changes. Exposure to chronic stress can cause specific structural and functional changes in an organism, which can be appraised objectively. Some of these alterations are an expected reaction of the body in its attempt to adapt to a stressful situation, while others are signs of possible disease development. The aim of this review was to present the most widely used methods of stress evaluation in adolescence research. Primary biomarkers associated with different biological systems, such as the stress hormones glucocorticoids,

Psychometric properties of the state Probability and Consequences Questionnaire for social anxiety disorder.

Cognitive models of social anxiety propose that overestimation of the probability and cost of negative evaluation plays a central role in maintaining the disorder. However, there are currently no self-report state-based measures of probability and cost appraisals. The current paper examines the psychometric properties of the Probability and Consequences Questionnaire for social anxiety (PCQ-SA), which measures probability and consequence appraisals both in anticipation of, and in response to, an impromptu speech task. A total of 532 participants were recruited for the present study, consisting

Psychometric properties of the Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE-24) Scale.

The objective of this study is to conduct a reliability and validity study of the Turkish version of the 'Pregnancy-Unique Quantification of Emesis (PUQE-24)' in pregnant women. In the Turkish version, Cronbach's alpha coefficient was 0.75, and the item-total score correlations were between 0.75 and 0.85. In the exploratory factor analysis it was determined that the scale had a single-factor structure explaining 65.968% of the total variance. The factor load values of the scale were found to be between 0.776 and 0.831. The Turkish version of scale was found to be a valid and reliable measureme

Measuring irritability in young adults: An integrative review of measures and their psychometric properties.

WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT?: Irritability is a transdiagnostic psychiatric symptom among different mental health diagnoses, such as depression, anxiety, personality and substance abuse disorders. Despite the prevalence of irritability across various psychiatric disorders, there is a lack of assessment measures developed and validated to specifically assess irritability. Existing evidence suggests that young adults with depression combined with irritability experience higher disease burden compared with depressed peers with low levels of irritability. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDG

Psychometric Properties of the Deviant Behavior Variety Scale in Young Spanish Adults.

Reminiscence refers to the process or act of thinking or telling about past experiences. Few studies address the relationship between reminiscence functions and trauma-related cognitions and emotions. This study aimed to expand the previous literature by investigating the frequency of different types of reminiscence during the COVID-19 pandemic and their relations to the likelihood of developing post-traumatic growth (PTG) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), using an adult sample. Altogether, 184 participants (Mage = 30.38; SD = 10.95) completed the Reminiscence Functions Scale to repor

Are the PHQ-9 and GAD-7 Suitable for Use in India? A Psychometric Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Cross-cultural evidence on the factorial structure and invariance of the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7 is lacking for South Asia. Recommendations on the use of unit-weighted scores of these scales (the sum of items' scores) are not well-founded. This study aims to address these contextual and methodological gaps using data from a rural Indian population. METHODS: The study surveyed 1,209 participants of the Kerala Diabetes Prevention Program aged 30-60 years (n at risk of diabetes = 1,007 and n with diabetes = 202). 1,007 participants were surveyed over 2 years using the PHQ-9 and the GAD-7

Development and psychometric validity of the perioperative anxiety scale-7 (PAS-7).

BACKGROUND: Preoperative anxiety is a common psychological reaction in perioperative patients. The absence of a valid measurement tool hinders the evaluation of interventions to treat preoperative anxiety in China. This study aims to develop the Perioperative Anxiety Scale-7 (PAS-7) and test its reliability, validity, and cut-off value. METHODS: A total of 280 patients over 16 years old (M = 55.1, SD = 14.3) who were undergoing elective surgery were recruited to complete the PAS-7 and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 scale (GAD-7) one day before surgery. RESULTS: The PAS-7 included seven i

A systematic review and psychometric evaluation of self-report measures for hoarding disorder.

BACKGROUND: Hoarding disorder (HD) affects approximately 2.5% of the general population, leads to significant distress and impairment, and is notoriously difficult to treat. The crux of developing effective treatments for HD is our ability to reliably and validly measure relevant constructs in HD to better understand its presentation and, subsequently, formulate appropriate interventions. METHODS: We identified measures specific to HD and evaluated their psychometric properties using rating criteria formulated by the Consensus-based Standards for the selection of health Measurement INstrument

Self-reported symptoms of cannabis use disorder: Psychometric testing and validation.

Cannabis use disorder (CUD) is commonly assessed using self-report items based on its symptoms as defined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) that are scored on a dichotomous scale (yes/no) to indicate symptom presence; however, scoring items on a dichotomy may result in relatively limited sensitivity for research. Thus, we developed a 13-item measure of CUD, the Self-Reported Symptoms of CUD (SRSCUD), based on the 11 symptoms described in the DSM-5 that is scored on a 4-point response scale indicating degree of severity. In the present study, we conduct an initi
