BACKGROUND: Radiation-induced cystitis is a common side effect of radiotherapy (RT) to the pelvic area. Hyaluronic acid (HA) and chondroitin sulfate (CS) are components of the urothelial mucosa and positive results have been obtained for intravesical HA/CS instillations for the treatment of urinary tract infections and bladder pain syndrome. HA/CS may also have a protective effect against RT bladder toxicity.

BACKGROUND: A successful integration of the automated blood sampling (ABS) and telemetry (ABST) system is described. SETTING: Chronic cutaneous wounds may cause considerable pain, often affecting patient compliance with necessary treatment protocols.
PATIENTS: Two patients are presented who were unable to comply with compression therapy because of severe wound pain.
INTERVENTION: Adjunctive pulsed radio frequency energy was administered for 30 minutes twice daily through an applicator pad placed directly on the dressing over the wound area.

The distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) is often the site of persistent symptoms after malunion of distal radius fractures. These malunions alter load transfer across the ulnocarpal joint, disturb DRUJ kinematics, and result in joint incongruity at the sigmoid notch. Treatment of distal radius malunions must not only correct position of the radial platform and joint incongruity but also restore anatomic relationship at the DRUJ. A systematic approach to the surgical reconstruction of these multiplanar deformities using clinical and radiographic parameters is outlined.

The influence of the ligands ethylenediaminetetramethylene phosphonic acid (EDTMP) and citrate (CIT) on the biodistribution of radio-yttrium in rats bearing a DS-carcinosarcoma was compared. 88Y-EDTMP and 87Y-CIT were i.v. injected into the same animals. Circulating immunoreactive intact human parathyroid hormone (PTH) was measured by a direct immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) and the results compared with a radio-immunoassay (RIA) which required extraction and concentration prior to assay.
