A 58-year-old woman developed slowly progressive tremulous myoclonus provoked mainly by action and posture. She had neither seizure nor dementia. No one in her family had similar symptoms. The presence of giant somatosensory evoked potentials (SEP) with enhanced long loop reflex and premovement cortical spikes demonstrated by the jerk-locked averaging method suggest that the involuntary movement is cortical reflex myoclonus. Pseudodystrophy is a condition that in the past was regarded incorrectly as a kind of reflex sympathetic dystrophy. The difference between both diseases can be ascertained easily by a bone scintigraphy. Other clinical features of pseudodystrophy are discussed. Infrequent presentations of reflex sympathetic dystrophy are described: radial, parcellar, and zonal cases; vertebral localization; and other misleading conditions.

Reflex sympathetic dystrophy is characterized by severe pain and autonomic dysfunction in a limb, usually after an injury. We describe a patient with childhood reflex sympathetic dystrophy with unilateral Beau's lines on the nails of the affected hand. Unilateral Beau's lines have not been described previously in this condition to our knowledge, and we discuss their possible pathogenesis.

OBJECTIVE: To compare morphologies of crossed and uncrossed acoustic reflex waveforms.
DESIGN: Subjects were 12 young adults with normal hearing. A signal-averaging technique was used to compare onset and offset latencies of crossed and uncrossed acoustic reflex waveforms when maximum amplitudes were matched.
RESULTS: Onset latency was similar for the two modes, but offset latency was significantly longer for the crossed reflex. Further, in individual subjects the difference between crossed and uncrossed offset latencies was inversely proportional to maximum reflex amplitude.

Reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD) of the anterior chest wall is a rare entity. A MEDLINE search in all languages of the world's literature from 1966 to the present yielded no report of the association of clavicle fracture with this pain syndrome. Two cases are presented and the anatomic variations of the supraclavicular nerves in relation to the clavicle are discussed.

Acoustic reflex maximum amplitude measurements elicited both contralaterally and ipsilaterally were obtained from subjects with noise-induced hearing loss and compared with those obtained from normal-hearing subjects. The eliciting signal was a pure tone of 1 kHz presented for 1,000 ms. The groups were matched on age, sex, static immittance and ear canal volume. Acoustic reflex amplitudes were clearly reduced in noise-impaired subjects compared with normal-hearing subjects at a frequency where their hearing thresholds were normal.
