Synergistic Plant-Microbe Interactions between Endophytic Actinobacteria and Their Role in Plant Growth Promotion and Biological Control of Cotton under Salt Stress.

Bacterial endophytes are well-acknowledged inoculants to promote plant growth and enhance their resistance toward various pathogens and environmental stresses. In the present study, 71 endophytic strains associated with the medicinal plant Thymus roseus were screened for their plant growth promotion (PGP), and the applicability of potent strains as bioinoculant has been evaluated. Regarding PGP traits, the percentage of strains were positive for the siderophore production (84%), auxin synthesis (69%), diazotrophs (76%), phosphate solubilization (79%), and production of lytic enzymes (i.e., cel

Survival of Listeria monocytogenes with different antibiotic resistance patterns to food-associated stresses.

The ongoing rise of antibiotic resistant microbial pathogens has become one of the major public health threats worldwide. Despite all the effort and actions taken so far, a proliferation of antibiotic resistant (AR) and multi-antibiotic resistant (MAR) strains is still observed, including in foodborne pathogens. This trend has been also noted recently for isolates of Listeria monocytogenes, a species that, although remaining largely sensitive to clinically relevant antimicrobials, has been reported to develop increased tolerance to antibiotics, particularly in isolates recovered from the food-

Integrative expression profiling and comparative bioinformatics analysis of ALDH7A1 in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) under salt and ABA treatments.

BACKGROUND: Soil salinity and abscisic acid (ABA)-related signaling are major constraints affecting chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) productivity by promoting oxidative stress and aldehyde accumulation. Aldehyde dehydrogenases (ALDHs), particularly members of the ALDH7 family, are involved in aldehyde detoxification and redox homeostasis under adverse conditions. However, the molecular characteristics, expression behavior, and structural features of ALDH7A1 in chickpea under salt and ABA treatments remain insufficiently understood. Therefore, this study aimed to provide an integrative characteriz

Overexpression of persimmon DkXTH1 enhanced tolerance to abiotic stress and delayed fruit softening in transgenic plants.

DkXTH1 promoted cell elongation and more strength to maintain structural integrity by involving in cell wall assembly, thus enhanced tolerance to abiotic stress with broader phenotype in transgenic plants. Xyloglucan endotransglucosylase/hydrolase (XTH) is thought to play a key role in cell wall modifications by cleaving and re-joining xyloglucan, and participates in the diverse physiological processes. DkXTH1 was found to peak in immature expanding persimmon fruit, and its higher expression level exhibited along with firmer fruit during storage. In the present study, transgenic Arabidopsis an

[The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis].

The syndrome of inappropriate antidiuresis (SIAD; formerly the syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone) is the most frequent cause of hyponatremia. A strong association exists between mortality and hyponatremia, which reflects the severity of the underlying disease. In SIAD, hyponatremia is associated with normovolaemia but the assessment of extracellular volume can be difficult. Clinical features are mainly neurological and can lead to death but mechanisms of adaptation can limit cerebral oedema. The notion of mild asymptomatic hyponatremia was questioned by the observatio

Halophytic C‑Glycosyltransferases Enable C‑Glycosylation in Organic Solvents.

C-glycosyltransferases from glycosyltransferase family 1 transfer sugar moieties to carbon atoms in the substituted aromatic rings of various small molecules. They are coveted biocatalysts for the synthesis of high-value glycosides since the resulting β-C-glycosidic linkage is usually more stable in vivo and in vitro than its O-glycosidic counterpart. One of the main bottlenecks in the biocatalytic glycosylation processes of small molecules is the low aqueous solubility of the acceptor substrate, drastically limiting product yields. One solution is to conduct the reaction in organic solvents p

Sucralfate and sodium sucrose sulphate in the treatment of superficial corneal disease in keratoconjunctivitis sicca.

We have studied the effect of the aluminum complex of sucrose sulphate (Sucralfate suspension) and the sodium salt of sucrose sulphate (sodium sucrose sulphate solution) on patients with keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Eyes treated with either of these two drugs showed a decrease in painfulness and blurring of vision. On examination the surface area of the corneal lesions, stained with fluorescein, diminished during treatment. As for the difference in effect between the two eyedrops, the solution was better tolerated.

Hyocholic acids shape neonatal immune tolerance and microbiota assembly.

Bile acids (BAs) are essential for regulating metabolism, immune responses, and host immunity-gut microbiome interactions. Here, we report that in human newborns, hyocholic acid (HCA) species constitute 51.03% of total BAs in meconium and 13.74% in infant serum, declining to <5% in adults. HCAs drive CD4+ T cell differentiation toward regulatory T cells while suppressing pro-inflammatory T helper (Th)17 cells, facilitating healthy microbiome colonization. Neonates with high HCA levels show a reduced incidence of infections and gastrointestinal disorders during the first year of life. Mechanist

Hyocholic acids: Third bile acids for neonatal health.

Hyocholic acids (HCAs), synthesized by fetal CYP3A7, dominate the neonatal bile acid pool. By promoting regulatory T cells and suppressing T helper 17 cells, HCAs establish intestinal immune tolerance, guide healthy microbiota assembly, and protect infants from infections and gastrointestinal disorders (Zheng et al.).

Pan-Family Analysis of HAK/KUP/KT Potassium Transporters in Brassica napus Prioritizes a Candidate Locus Associated with Salt-Related Variation.

The HAK/KUP/KT family represents a major group of plant potassium transporters involved in K+ uptake, ion homeostasis and stress responses. However, the accession-level diversity of HAK/KUP/KT genes in Brassica napus remains insufficiently characterized. In this study, we performed a pan-family analysis of HAK/KUP/KT genes across eight B. napus accessions. A total of 269 annotated HAK/KUP/KT family members were identified and classified into core, soft-core, dispensable and private orthogroups based on their representation across the analyzed genome annotations. Phylogenetic analysis grouped t

Exogenous salicylic acid improves photosynthesis and growth through increase in ascorbate-glutathione metabolism and S assimilation in mustard under salt stress.

Ascorbate (AsA)-glutathione (GSH) cycle metabolism has been regarded as the most important defense mechanism for the resistance of plants under stress. In this study the influence of salicylic acid (SA) was studied on ascorbate-glutathione pathway, S-assimilation, photosynthesis and growth of mustard (Brassica juncea L.) plants subjected to 100 mM NaCl. Treatment of SA (0.5 mM) alleviated the negative effects of salt stress and improved photosynthesis and growth through increase in enzymes of ascorbate-glutathione pathway which suggest that SA may participate in the redox balance under salt st

2-Pyridone-Directed CuII-Catalyzed General Method of C(sp2)-H Activation for C-S, C-Se, and C-N Cross-Coupling: Easy Access to Aryl Thioethers, Selenide Ethers, and Sulfonamides and DFT Study.

We have demonstrated N-substituted 2-pyridones as an N,O-directing group for selective C(sp2)-H-activated thiolation, selenylation, and sulfonamidation of ortho C-H bonds of benzamides. This method utilizes a cost-effective Cu(II)-salt catalyst instead of precious metal catalysts, achieving high yields, including gram-scale synthesis and excellent functional group tolerance. We applied this protocol to access 30 different compounds with high yields, demonstrating thiolation of fluorine-substituted benzamides as well. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations support the mechanism, including
