The diagnosis of Silver-Russell syndrome is based on the characteristic growth restriction and the presence of typical dysmorphic features. We present the prenatal and postnatal findings of a case that was treated at our perinatal center. The suspected diagnosis Silver-Russell syndrome was confirmed after delivery by our medical genetic and neonatology services. The authors want to point out that SRS should be considered in the differential diagnosis of early asymmetric intrauterine growth restriction.

The physiological effects of waterborne silver exposure (added as AgNO(3)) on spiny dogfish, Squalus acanthias, were evaluated at 30, 200 and 685 microg silver per l in 30 per thousand seawater. These concentrations cover the toxic range observed for freshwater teleosts, where silver is extremely toxic, to seawater teleosts which tolerate higher silver concentrations. This study reports results of 52 patients with Bartholin abscesses or cysts who were managed by silver nitrate stick insertion into the cyst or abscess cavity for 48 hours. All patients showed complete healing within 15 days. However, 2 (3.8%) had recurrences within the first 2 months; 1 of these patients was treated with excision and the other by repetition of the same method with no further complaints. Although primary double teeth in the anterior region of the mouth are not uncommon, double teeth in the primary molar region are rare. This case report describes the intra-oral findings, and in particular a case of a primary molar double tooth, in a young child who has Russel-Silver syndrome.

An 8-month-old male infant was treated with topical silver sulfadiazine for a burn and complicating toxic epidermal necrolysis involving 78% of his total body surface area. Transdermal absorption of propylene glycol from the silver sulfadiazine produced hyperosmolality with an increased osmolal gap. Norfloxacin is a new synthetic antibiotic with a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, and is more effective than the aminoglycosides against P aeruginosa. A 38-month-old patient with Silver-Russel syndrome (SRS) and ambiguous genitalia had a 46,XY karyotype on leukocyte and fibroblast cultures. This is the third SRS child with ambiguous genitalia described in the literature. In a review of the findings in 148 reported cases of the syndrome, abnormalities occurring in over 50% of the cases are short stature, craniofacial dysproportion, low birth weight, term gestation, body asymmetry, incurved fifth digits, normal intelligence, short fifth digits, and down-curved corners of the mouth (shark mouth).
