OBJECTIVE: Nasal polyps are common, abnormal lesions. Recurrence of the nasal polyposis is prevalent and a severe problem. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between Ki-67 immunoreactivity and the risk of recurrence of nasal polyps. Ki-67 staining of polypectomy material was tested as a risk factor for recurrence independent of etiologic factors or treatment modalities.

Specimens from 495 patients attending Johannesburg hospitals and family planning clinics were examined for Trichomonas vaginalis by microscopy of Giemsa (GS), Papanicolaou (PAP), and acridine-orange (AO) stained smears, and by culture in Feinberg-Whittington medium. PURPOSE: To examine the differential staining of two potential stress-response markers, alpha B-crystallin and the trabecular meshwork inducible glucocorticoid response protein (TIGR), in meshwork from normal and glaucomatous human eyes.
METHODS: Trabecular meshwork from 35 eyes from 23 donors with either primary open-angle glaucoma, pseudoexfoliative glaucoma, or low-tension glaucoma, and from age-matched normal eyes, was examined. Sagittal and tangential frozen sections were stained with polyclonal antibodies to alpha B-crystallin or TIGR and then by a fluorescent secondary antibody.
