BACKGROUND: Limited dorsal myeloschisis (LDM) is a distinctive form of spinal dysraphism characterized by 2 constant features: a focal "closed" midline defect and a fibroneural stalk that links the skin lesion to the underlying cord. The embryogenesis is hypothesized to be incomplete disjunction between cutaneous and neural ectoderms, thus preventing complete midline skin closure and allowing persistence of a physical link (fibroneural stalk) between the disjunction site and the dorsal neural tube.
OBJECTIVE: To illustrate these features in 51 LDM patients.

Background Studies on workplace violence against physicians in emergency departments (EDs) in Turkey are lacking. Methods To describe the frequency and types of workplace violence, a 34-question online survey of the past 12 months was sent to physicians working in EDs in Turkey. Types of violence were categorized as verbal threats, physical assaults, confrontation, stalking, and sexual harassment. Forty-six patients with idiopathic growth hormone deficiency were examined by magnetic resonance imaging at a mean (+/- SEM) age of 9 +/- 1 years (range 15 days to 20 years). They were classified into two groups according to MRI images: group 1 (n = 29) had pituitary stalk interruption syndrome and group 2 (n = 17) had normal pituitary anatomy. We report the case of a primary malignant melanoma arising from the mucosa of the hard palate on a fibrovascular stalk. This is to our knowledge the first report of a pedunculated melanoma in this location. The possibility of a more favorable prognosis, because of the stalk, which shows no signs of invasion by the neoplasm, is considered.

In a phase 1 clinical trial, a chimeric hemagglutinin (cHA) immunogen induced antibody responses against the conserved hemagglutinin (HA) stalk domain as designed.
