BACKGROUND: It has been reported that 4,4'-diamino-diphenyl sulfone (DDS), the longtime treatment of choice for leprosy, prolongs the lifespan and increases mobility in animal models by reducing the levels of reactive oxygen species and inhibiting muscle pyruvate kinase activity. This study aimed to investigate whether sarcopenic status in leprosy survivors was influenced by recent history of DDS medication.

Methyl mercury cation (MeHg(+)) and divalent mercury (Hg(2+)) were quantified in urine, liver, kidney, and brain of prairie voles (Microtus ochrogaster) during a 12 week exposure to aqueous MeHg(+) at concentrations of 10, 100, and 1000 ng MeHg(+)/mL. The value of the unscheduled DNA synthesis by exposure to combined action of damaging agents--gamma-irradiation and methyl methanesulfonate--does not exceed its value after separate actions of each particular agent in lymphocytes from healthy subjects as well as in those with Xeroderma pigmentosum in form II (XP2LE). The in vitro and in vivo activity of carumonam was tested in comparison with that of aztreonam and other beta-lactam antibiotics. With the exception of a few isolates that were overproducers of cephalosporinase, Enterobacteriaceae were highly susceptible to carumonam, 90% of the isolates being inhibited at 0.5 micrograms/ml. The catalytic dehydration of fructose to 5-ethoxymethylfurfural (EMF) in ethanol provides a promising approach for low-carbon chemical production. However, current catalytic systems generally suffer from a trade-off between reaction efficiency and product selectivity. Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are ubiquitous, persistent toxicants. In the environment, PFAS co-occur with other compounds, including agonists of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR). In this study, in silico molecular docking, in vitro enzyme activity, and in vivo zebrafish model were used to identify PFAS that may interact with the AHR pathway and assess impacts for developmental toxicity.
