This article discusses strategies to prevent and manage the most common complications seen in body contouring surgery. General approaches to avoidance and treatment of these complications are addressed, including wound dehiscence, delayed wound healing, seroma, hematoma, infections of the surgical or remote sites, lymphedema, suture extrusion, and fat necrosis. Procedure-specific complications and pearls to avoiding complications in these cases are presented. Difficult problems, such as management of the disappointed patient, also are discussed.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: There are many limitations to performing clinical research with high levels of evidence in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery (FPRS), such as randomization into surgical groups and sample size recruitment. Therefore, additional avenues for exploring research should be explored using big data, from databases to registries. BACKGROUND: Greig cephalopolysyndactyly syndrome (GCPS) is an uncommon entity characterised by polysyndactyly and craniofacial features. The syndrome is not defined by classic signs. Instead there is a high variability in phenotypes observed. This is due to the large number of different mutations in the glioma-associated oncogene 3 (GLI3) that can give rise to the syndrome. Management of an impacted canine often leads to an inadequate width of attached gingiva, which can be a possible risk for future gingival recession and associated complications. Uncovering a labially impacted maxillary canine can be performed by gingivectomy, apically positioned flap surgery, or a closed eruption technique. Choosing the right technique is sometimes confusing. The authors present a case that was managed by apically positioned flap surgery followed by orthodontic treatment.

However, frustration is often expressed by neurosurgeons when first attempting endoscopic endonasal pituitary surgery. To overcome the learning curve from microscope to endoscope in a smooth way, a new human nasal model has been developed. The present study assessed this new model of the human paranasal sinuses for endonasal surgery training, particularly for endonasal pituitary surgery training.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the use of antibiotic drugs in the plastic surgery patients.
METHODS: With a random-sampling method, the patterns of use of antibiotic drugs were reviewed in 840 cases (1014 surgical operations) from the Plastic Surgery Hospital, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.
RESULTS: About 99.21 per cent of patients received antibiotic drugs, and prophylaxis accounted for about 99.70 per cent of all antibiotic drugs. The drugs used most often for prophylaxis were penicillin, followed by cephalosporins.
