STUDY OBJECTIVE: A very high percentage of patients with severe pelvic endometriosis develop adhesions after laparoscopic surgery. The objective of this trial was to evaluate the role of ovarian suspension performed during surgery for severe endometriosis on ovarian adhesions and postoperative pelvic pain.
DESIGN: A randomized controlled trial (Canadian Task Force classification I).
SETTING: The tertiary care University Hospital of Bologna, Bologna, Italy.
PATIENTS: Eighty patients with ovarian and posterior deep infiltrating endometriosis were included in the study.

PURPOSE: To evaluate intraovarian histologic changes caused by polypropylene and silk sutures that commonly are used in ovarian suspension.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twenty-four female rats were randomly allocated to three study groups: a sham group receiving no ovarian suspension; the other two groups that had right ovarian suspension with polypropylene and silk sutures. Hyoid suspension is a procedure to stabilise the retrolingual space in obstructive sleep apnoea. We examined the changes of hemodynamic parameters in nembutal-anesthetized rats during gradual hemorrhage (2 ml/100 g body weight during 30 min). In control rats blood pressure began to decline starting from 3rd min of bleeding and from 5th min it was accompanied by cardiac deceleration. Hindlimb vascular resistance was only slightly increased up to 15th min (by 20-30%) and then began to grow drastically. Less prominent changes of hemodynamics were observed in post-suspension rats. Healing of peroneal bone fracture was studied histologically and histomorphologically in rats exposed to a 30-d tail-suspension. To fracture bones, anesthetized rats were operated on day 15 of suspension.
