[Seronegative rheumatoid arthritis combined with elbow pigmented villonodular synovitis: A case report].

We report a case of elbow pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) combined with seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (SNRA) and review relevant literature to summarize the characteristics, treatment, and outcomes of this comorbidity. The patient was a 72-year-old female. She developed swelling and pain of the right elbow in 2002, and underwent surgical treatment. Postoperative histopathology confirmed PVNS. In 2007, she developed swelling and pain in the left elbow and underwent synovectomy, and synovectomy again yielded pathology consistent with PVNS. From 2021 onwards, she experienced recurrent…

Hip Osteoarthritis Associated with Prominent Synovitis Revealed by 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT.

A 56-year-old patient was initially diagnosed with aseptic loosening of a left acetabular prosthesis based on 68Ga-FAPI. Half a year after revision, this patient developed right hip pain and a subsequent 68Ga-FAPI was performed revealing increased tracer uptake in the right hip, leading to a diagnosis of synovitis-induced osteoarthritis. This case highlights the utility of 68Ga-FAPI-PET/CT in visualizing synovial activity and underscores the potential role of synovitis in the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis.

Mid1 promotes synovitis in rheumatoid arthritis via ubiquitin-dependent post-translational modification.

INTRODUCTION: Current anti-rheumatic drugs are primarily modulating immune cell activation, yet their effectiveness remained suboptimal. The … the ubiquitination of DPP4 by Mid1 promotes synovial cell proliferation and invasion, exacerbating synovitis in RA. These results reveal a novel mechanism that controls synovial activation, positioning Mid1 as a promising target for therapeutic intervention in RA.

Synovitis Ointment Improved Knee Osteoarthritis by Suppressing SDF-1/CXCR4 Signaling Pathway.

OBJECTIVE: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) remains a challenge for clinicians worldwide and lacks major advancements in treatment. In this study, we investigated the mechanism of synovitis ointment interference on KOA. METHODS: SD rats were used to establish KOA models and were randomly divided into five groups: the control group, the KOA group, the KOA + synovitis ointment group, the KOA + Western medicine group, and the KOA + Chinese medicine group. Detection of pathological injury of the joint was observed through HE staining. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure the exp…

Diffuse-type giant cell tumor: Pigmented villonodular synovitis of patellar fat pad.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a rare, relatively benign intra-articular lesion characterized by slowly progressing proliferation of the synovial tissue. It is most commonly observed in the knee joint. Localized and diffuse types are two types of PVNS depending on the synovial involvement. Arthroscopic and excisional resections are recommended as the treatment methods for the PVNS. Radiotherapy or chemotherapy can be adjuvant therapeutic options for the widespread masses. In this study, we presented a case of diffuse PVNS originating from the patellar fat pad.

Remitting Seronegative Symmetrical Synovitis with Pitting Edema Syndrome Complicated with Organizing Pneumonia.

We herein report a 62-year-old man with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis who developed remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) syndrome during follow-up. Pulmonary infiltrations were detected concomitantly with the development of RS3PE syndrome, and prednisolone improved both the pulmonary and extrapulmonary lesions. Recognizing the pulmonary manifestations of RS3PE syndrome is necessary to provide an appropriate diagnosis and disease management.

Glenohumeral synovitis score predicts early shoulder stiffness following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to determine if there is an association between an intraoperative glenohumeral synovitis score (GHSS) and postoperative shoulder stiffness in patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR). METHODS: Intraoperative GHSS was collected retrospectively from standardized arthroscopic images on consecutive patients undergoing primary ARCR. Range of motion was collected preoperatively and postoperatively at 3 and 6 months. RESULTS: 290 consecutive patients underwent primary ARCR. At three-months follow-up, 32 (11.0%) patients had glenohumeral stiffn…

Pigmented Villonodular Synovitis Around the Elbow Joint That Required Upper Arm Amputation.

Pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is a relatively rare benign proliferative disorder of the synovium, and it commonly occurs in the knee joint. A unique case of huge PVNS originating around the elbow joint that required upper arm amputation is reported. A 74-year-old woman had a 5-month history of right elbow pain and noticed a mass measuring 8 × 5 cm on the olecranon side. She had a past history of undergoing tumor resection and flap surgery 9 years earlier, diagnosed as a giant cell tumor involving the right elbow region. She had chronic renal failure, with a shunt on the right forearm…

Association between Bone marrow lesions & synovitis and symptoms in symptomatic knee osteoarthritis.

OBJECTIVE: Bone marrow lesions (BMLs) on MRI are typically subchondral in location, however, a proportion occur at knee ligament attachments and also include a cyst-like component. Our aim was to determine whether the volume of BML subtypes and synovial tissue volume (STV) was associated with symptoms in symptomatic knee OA. METHOD: Images were acquired in a sub-sample who had taken part in a randomised trial of vitamin D therapy in knee OA (UK-VIDEO). Contrast-enhanced (CE) MRI was performed annually. In those who had ≥1 follow-up and a baseline scan (N = 50), STV and BML volume was assessed

Pigmented villonodular synovitis managed by total synovectomy and cementless total hip arthroplasty.

BACKGROUND: Pigmented villonodular synovitis or PVNS is a benign proliferating disease of the synovium; it behaves much as a neoplastic process does. METHODS: This retrospective clinical study included 11 consecutive cases who underwent for total synovectomy combined with cementless total hip arthroplasty of PVNS of the hip joint. RESULTS: The mean patient preoperative hip score of Harris was 46.1 points (range 30-70 points) improved to 94.3 points (range 90-100 points) at the last follow-up visits. No clinical or radiological evidence of recurrent PVNS or osteolysis or loosening had been de…

Remitting Seronegative Symmetrical Synovitis With Pitting Edema: Appearance on FDG PET/CT.

Remitting seronegative symmetrical synovitis with pitting edema (RS3PE) is a rare condition in the elderly and can appear as a first presentation of various types of rheumatic and malignant diseases. We presented a 62-year-old man with the diagnosis of RS3PE based on the clinical sign and laboratory data. Because of the possibility of associated malignancies in RS3PE, FDG PET/CT was performed to exclude occult tumors. The images showed multiple, symmetrically, diffusely increased F-FDG uptake in the soft tissue around joints and bones in the shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles.

Synovitis-acne-pustulosis-hyperostosis-osteitis (SAPHO) Syndrome with Significant Bilateral Pleural Effusions.

We herein report a rare case of a 66-year-old woman who had synovitis-acne-pustulosis-hyperostosis-osteitis (SAPHO) syndrome with marked sternal osteitis and bilateral pleural effusions. SAPHO syndrome was diagnosed based on the characteristic features of a hyperostotic sternum and thoracic spine. The inflammatory changes of sternal osteitis and involvement of the adjacent soft tissue were assumed to be the cause of the pleural effusions. The effusions decreased during the natural course of the disease and resolved after methotrexate therapy. The pain dramatically decreased with oral tramadol.…

Long-term follow-up results of primary and recurrent pigmented villonodular synovitis.

OBJECTIVE: Adequate documentation of the outcome of treatment of pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVNS) is sparse. Available case series show relatively short follow-up times and often combine locations or subtypes to increase patient numbers. This article describes the long-term follow-up of a single institution's large consecutive series of PVNS. METHODS: Retrospectively, 107 PVNS patients were identified between 1985 and 2011 by searching pathology and radiology records. Treatment complications, recurrences and quality of life were evaluated. Most patients (85.2%) were primarily or second…
