The goal of this study was to compare the outcomes of unstable trochanteric fractures treated with the InterTan nail (Smith & Nephew, Memphis, Tennessee) and the Proximal Femoral Nail Antirotation (PFNA-II) (Synthes, Solothurn, Switzerland). A total of 132 consecutive patients with unstable trochanteric fractures of the femur were enrolled in the study. Twenty horses with pemphigus foliaceus were seen over a period of 15 years in a veterinary medical teaching hospital. Breeds seen were seven quarterhorses, five thoroughbreds, three cross-bred horses, two Arabians and one of each of the following: standardbred, Tennessee walker and warmblood. From April 1990 to August 1994, the GSH supracondylar intramedullary nail (Smith & Nephew/Richards, Memphis, Tennessee) was used to treat 23 supracondylar femur fractures in 22 patients.
