A novel magnetisation technique for the retrieval of a separated stainless-steel bur from an open apex upper lateral incisor: a case report.

Instrument separation during endodontic treatment can present significant challenges, particularly in teeth with complex anatomy and open apices where conventional retrieval techniques carry a high risk of further apical displacement or dentine loss. We present a patient with a necrotic maxillary lateral incisor affected by dens invaginatus and an open apex in which the tip of a stainless steel bur became separated and displaced apically during access preparation. Conventional retrieval methods were deemed unsuitable due to the canal morphology and risk of extrusion. A neodymium magnet was cou

Revolutionizing Endodontics: Innovative Approaches for Treating Mature Teeth With Closed Apices and Apical Lesions: A Report of Two Cases.

INTRODUCTION: Modern tissue engineering strategies have elucidated the potential of regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) as an alternative for treating mature teeth. METHODS: Here, we report two cases in which cell-based RET (CB-RET) using encapsulated allogeneic umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (UC-MSCs) in a platelet-poor plasma (PPP)-based scaffold was used in two mature teeth with pulp necrosis and apical periodontitis. RESULTS: After 5 years of follow-up, the healing response was satisfactory in both cases, with evidence of pulp revitalization. CONCLUSIONS: This is the first st

Influence of foraminal enlargement on the healing of periapical lesions in rat molars.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of foraminal enlargement on the healing of induced apical periodontitis in a rat model. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Periapical lesions were bilaterally induced in mandibular first molars of 24 Wistar rats, through root canals exposure to the oral environment during 3 weeks. Endodontic treatment was performed in the mesial canal of right molars, which were separated into two experimental groups (n = 12/group). The foraminal enlargement group (FEG) received instrumentation in the entire root canal length, including the cemental canal, wh

Fate of the tissue in lateral canals and apical ramifications in response to pathologic conditions and treatment procedures.

INTRODUCTION: This article reviews and reports on the histopathologic and histobacteriologic status of the tissue in lateral canals and apical ramifications (LC/AR) in diverse clinical conditions as well as in response to endodontic treatment. METHODS: In total, serial sections from 493 human tooth specimens obtained by extraction or apical surgery were screened for the presence of LC/AR. RESULTS: LC/AR were observed in about 75% of the teeth. In clinically vital teeth, vital tissue was consistently found in LC/AR. In teeth with periodontal disease, the whole pulp became necrotic only when t

The use of laser Doppler flowmetry in paediatric dentistry.

BACKGROUND: An early determination of pulpal vitality is crucial with respect to a correct differential diagnosis of revascularisation or necrosis and its treatment. REVIEW: Sensibility tests (cold, heat, electrical pulp test) in combination with radiographs are commonly promoted. However these tests are arbitrary, based on sensations and therefore not always reliable. In such situations registration of pulpal blood flow will be advantageous. The most studied and well documented method for registration of blood circulation is laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) which is typified as a non-invasive t

Effects of cancer therapy on dental and maxillofacial development in children: report of case.

Malignant lymphoma is one of the most common hematological diseases of children. The prognosis is fairly good with multimodal cancer therapy. We reported a boy with Burkitt's lymphoma in the nasal cavity who received chemotherapy and irradiation of the head and neck area at four years of age. During seven years of follow-up, we studied the developmental effects of cancer therapy, including general growth, maxillofacial bones, and dentition. Compared with boys of matching age, the development of his entire body and maxillofacial bones was delayed. In the irradiated areas, the roots of teeth wer

Microsurgical management of radicular cyst using guided tissue regeneration technique: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Radicular cyst is a lesion of odontogenic origin that arises from epithelial remains due to periapical periodontitis caused by inflammatory reactions generated at the apex of affected teeth with infected or necrotic pulps. The therapeutic management of radicular cysts is controversial. There is only one case report of enucleation of a radicular cyst managed with microsurgery and apicoectomy, but without the use of the guided tissue regeneration (GTR) technique in the same surgical procedure. The present clinical case describes the management of a radicular cyst with microsurgical a

Diagnosis and root canal treatment in a mandibular premolar with three canals.

This paper presents a case report of a left mandibular second premolar with three canals and three different apical foramina. A 39-year-old male patient presented to our clinic with pain in the mandibular left second premolar. Initially, pain was caused by cold stimulus and later was spontaneously. The intraoral clinical examination revealed a fractured amalgam restoration with occlusal caries. Percussion and cold (Endo-Frost) tests were positive. The radiographic examination showed the presence of two roots. The probable diagnosis was an acute pulpitis. After access cavity, it was observed re

Extracellular matrix-mediated tissue remodeling following axial movement of teeth.

Tooth eruption is a multifactorial process involving movement of existing tissues and formation of new tissues coordinated by a complex set of genetic events. We have used the model of the unopposed rodent molar to study morphological and genetic mechanisms involved in axial movement of teeth. Following extraction of opposing upper molars, lower molars supererupted by 0.13 mm. Labeled tissue sections revealed significant amounts of new bone and cementum apposition at the root apex of the unopposed side following supereruption for 12 days. Newly apposited cementum and alveolar bone layers were
