We have examined radioautographically the protein synthetic and secretory activity of differentiating odontoblasts and ameloblasts, exposed for 9 h in vitro to various concentrations of colchicine in the presence of 3H-proline. UNLABELLED: The odontogenic myxoma is a tumor of the jaws which arises from the mesenchymal portion of the tooth germ, either the dental papilla, the follicle, or the periodontal ligament. It is a slow-growing, painless, nonmetastasizing, central tumor of the jaws, chiefly the mandible. Radiographically, the classic presentation may vary from a unilocular radiolucency to a multilocular lesion with well-defined or diffuse margins. The calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor or calcifying odontogenic cyst is a benign cystic neoplasm of odontogenic origin that is characterized by an ameloblastoma-like epithelium and ghost cells. Calcifying cystic odontogenic tumor may be centrally or peripherally located, and its ghost cells may exhibit calcification, as first described by Gorlin in 1962. Extraction by wear without removal of the apex is proposed as a means of avoiding damage to the alveolar nerve. If no surgical prophylaxy is used the risk is major sequellae: painful anaesthesia of the area involved. There is no really effective treatment for such sequellae, creating persistent psychological problems throughout life.
