BACKGROUND: Patients with subclinical hypothyroidism (sHT) have an increased risk of developing atherosclerosis, probably related to dyslipidemia. We compared the effects of levothyroxine (L-T4) versus simvastatin treatment on carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and lipid profiles in patients with sHT.

Primary cardiac intimal sarcoma is an extremely rare, high-grade malignancy characterized by rapid progression and high early recurrence rates. We report the case of a 28-year-old male who underwent emergency resection for a large left atrial intimal sarcoma (10 × 8 cm). We present here a mathematical model describing the primary mechanisms that drive the early stages of atherosclerosis. Focal common carotid artery intramural haematomas are rare. A 50-year-old man with a spontaneous onset of tenderness in the region of the right common carotid artery presented to our hospital (Christchurch, New Zealand). BACKGROUND: Amphetamines have been reported to cause myocardial infarct, cerebral hemorrhage, aortic dissection, hypertension, vasculitis, aneurysms, and, occasionally, death from direct toxicity. To date, there have been no reports of coronary intimal hyperplasia in an amphetamine user.
METHODS: A 29-year-old male was found collapsed after jogging. He had been taking amphetamines for 11 years for attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Past medical history was positive for mild hypertension and migraine headaches. He underwent a complete autopsy and drug screen.

Acute iatrogenic flow-limiting dissection, a feared complication, developed in the tortuous cervical internal carotid artery (ICA) of a 35-year-old man during endovascular treatment of a growing left middle cerebral artery fusiform aneurysm. While attempting true lumen penetration, the guidewire perforated the dissection flap, regaining the true lumen. We fenestrated the intimal flap with a balloon and navigated a microcatheter through it in order to perform the intracranial embolization procedure. After aneurysm embolization, several stents were implanted for ICA restoration.
