UNLABELLED: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic affected the entire world and contributed to severe health and economic consequences. A safe and effective vaccine is a tool allowing the pandemic to be controlled. Hence, we aimed to conduct a survey on vaccinations against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 in Poland, Lithuania, and Ukraine. We also evaluated societal attitudes towards influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted the study between December 2020 and May 2021. At the time, the countries subject to the research were between the second and third waves of the COVID-19

Experts are concerned about the spread and recalcitrance of vaccine misinformation and its contribution to vaccine hesitancy. Despite this risk, little research attention has been paid to understanding how individuals seek vaccine information online and evaluate its trustworthiness. Here, we hypothesized that when vaccine-hesitant parents seek information about vaccines, they prefer trustworthy sources based on their competence, integrity and benevolence. We explored this issue using 4910 questions and 2583 answers retrieved from two social question-and-answer (Q&A) platforms: "Yahoo! Answers"

A systematic literature review was conducted to build a comprehensive evidence base of qualitative/quantitative studies to identify barriers and enablers influencing maternal immunization (MI). Searches of seven databases on 20/10/2023 and 26/10/2023 yielded 87,367 records. Two reviewers performed full-text screening of 484 records. English-language articles from countries that had national recommendations for pertussis-containing maternal vaccines and reported on maternal vaccine acceptance, trust, and hesitancy were eligible. Overall, 184 studies were included. Barriers involving individual

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine hesitancy was one of the main global public health threats. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 crisis and its associated risks only reinforced this hesitancy. This study aimed to identify to what extent the COVID-19 vaccination affected confusion around vaccination in general, its change and any associated factors. A questionnaire was distributed to the university population of Liège between April-June 2021 (Time 1) and July-September 2022 (Time 2). The impact of the COVID-19 vaccination on confusion around vaccination in general (score 0 to 100) was divided

BACKGROUND: Reports of allergic reactions to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines, coupled with an "infodemic" of misinformation, carry the potential to undermine confidence in the COVID-19 vaccines. However, no attempts have been made to comprehensively synthesize the literature on how allergic disease and fear of allergic reactions to the vaccines contribute to hesitancy.
OBJECTIVES: Our aim was to review the academic and gray literature on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and allergic reactions.
METHODS: We searched 4 databases (CINAHL, PsycINFO, MEDLINE, and Embase) using a search stra

BACKGROUND: Patients with multiple myeloma (MM) were excluded from the original SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine trials, which may influence vaccine hesitancy in this population. We prospectively characterized the safety and immunogenicity of two-dose SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination in 44 patients with MM, who underwent vaccination from 12/17/2020 to 3/18/2021.
RESULTS: Rates adverse reactions were low and consistent with those documented in vaccine trials. Among those on MM therapy, 93% developed detectable anti-receptor binding domain (RBD) antibodies after dose 2, while 94% of patients not on MM therap

Despite the documented safety and efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccination, parental pediatric vaccine hesitancy is common. Little is known about the concerns and beliefs held by caregivers that impact COVID vaccination decision-making on behalf of their minor children, as underlying attitudes toward pediatric COVID-19 vaccination have not been well described. Unvaccinated children and their caregivers underwent antibody testing and completed an electronic survey at four clinic-based practices in Northern and Central New Jersey from August 2022 to June 2023. Caregivers were grouped into four attit

BACKGROUND: Vaccination has been essential in mitigating the worst effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in Canada. Healthcare providers can play a crucial role in promoting COVID-19 vaccination by discussing immunization, addressing patients' questions, and providing them with relevant information. However, some segments of the public remained hesitant towards COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic, reflecting an information environment crowded with misinformation and political polarization. This study examines challenging clinical discussions that healthcare providers had with patients hesitant

Pregnant individuals and infants are at risk from vaccine-preventable diseases like severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza. Maternal vaccination during pregnancy can protect both the mother and child. Recent progress in developing these vaccines is notable, but vaccine hesitancy and the exclusion of pregnant individuals from clinical trials limit their use. Maternal immunization safeguards mothers from severe illness and adverse pregnancy outcomes while providing infants with antibodies through the placenta and breast milk. Inactivated vaccines are generally

Most vaccines are so effective that they could lead to the control/elimination of the diseases they target and directly impact on intensive care admissions or complications. This is best illustrated by the use of vaccines against Haemophilus influenzae type b, Streptococcus pneumoniae, zoster, yellow fever, Ebola virus, influenza or measles-but also by third party strategies such as maternal, toddler and care-giver immunization. However, each of these vaccine-induced protection is threatened by insufficient vaccine uptake. Here, we briefly discuss how vaccine hesitancy has led to the resurgenc

COVID-19 continues to pose a threat to global public health. Multiple safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19 are available with one-third of the global population now vaccinated. Achieving a sufficient level of vaccine coverage to suppress COVID-19 requires, in part, sufficient acceptance among the public. However, relatively high rates of hesitance and resistance to COVID-19 vaccination persists, threating public health efforts to achieve vaccine-induced population protection. In this study, we examined longitudinal changes in COVID-19 vaccine acceptance, hesitance, and resistance in tw

BACKGROUND: The human papillomavirus vaccine (HPV vaccine) was introduced into the Danish Childhood Vaccination Programme in 2009. Following a national debate questioning the safety of the vaccine, the coverage decreased from an uptake of >90% for the first dose of the HPV vaccine to an uptake of 52% in girls born in 2003. The aim of this study was to identify changes in determinants for HPV vaccine hesitancy in the period when the debate spiraled and to identify determinants for specific hesitancy towards the HPV vaccine among girls who received the second dose of the measles, mumps and rubel

INTRODUCTION: Vaccination is a key strategy to safeguard the health of pregnant women and newborns. Although vaccine acceptance is often higher in low- and middle-income countries, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted increasing vaccine hesitancy. Vaccine hesitancy, specifically in pregnant women, must be understood to increase uptake. We used data from a Ugandan pregnancy registry study to examine sociodemographic factors linked to uptake of vaccines (tetanus toxoid and later COVID-19) in pregnancy.
METHODS: Pregnant women were recruited in Kampala, Uganda, as part of the PREPARE (Preventio

BACKGROUND: Individuals with self-declared sarcoidosis are at increased risk of COVID-19 related morbidity and mortality for which vaccination can be lifesaving. Despite this, vaccine hesitancy remains a large barrier to global acceptance of vaccination against COVID-19. We aimed to identify individuals with sarcoidosis who had and had not been vaccinated against COVID-19 vaccine to 1) establish a safety profile of COVID-19 vaccination in those with sarcoidosis and 2) to elucidate factors that contribute to COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy.
METHODS: A questionnaire inquiring about COVID-19 vaccinat

In the last twelve months, a significant global increase in pertussis cases has been observed, particularly among infants under three months of age. This age group is at the highest risk for severe disease, hospitalization, and death. Maternal immunization with the Tdap vaccine during pregnancy has been recommended to protect newborns by transferring maternal antibodies transplacentally. This review examines the current epidemiology of pertussis, the importance of preventing it in young children, and the effectiveness of maternal immunization. Despite the proven benefits of maternal vaccinatio

Vaccination of healthcare workers (HCWs) is a public health tool of the utmost importance and the Italian National Vaccine Prevention Plan (PNPV) 2017-2019 recommends several vaccinations in this population group. Nevertheless, vaccine hesitancy is influencing HCWs' attitude towards vaccination. Moreover, a large number of measles cases have been reported in Italy among HCWs in 2017 and 2018. In Italy there is no national registry for vaccinations, so data on vaccine coverage among HCWs are not readily accessible. The aim of this literature review is to describe the most recent data about vacc

This article interrogates COVID-19 Vaccine and the Black Community: A Tyler Perry Special, a health communication program that addressed vaccine hesitancy in the Black community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using critical race theory (CRT) and amplification rhetoric, we, two Black scholars, analyze how the program leveraged culturally resonant storytelling, African American Vernacular English (AAVE), and the influence of Tyler Perry to challenge medical mistrust and race-based structural inequities. While acknowledging that the Black experience is not monolithic, the special reframes vaccine

World Health Organization findings indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic adversely affected cancer diagnosis and management. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the optimal management of outpatient appointments, scheduled treatments, and hospitalizations for cancer patients because of hesitancy among patients and health-care providers. Travel restrictions and other factors likely affected medical, surgical, and radiation treatments during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cancer patients were more likely to be affected by severe illness and complications if they contracted COVID-19. A compromised immune system
