PURPOSE: To report cultivated epithelial transplantation in 2 patients with vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) with severe ocular surface disease.
METHODS: Two patients initially diagnosed with burnt-out VKC presented with bilateral photophobia, decreased vision, and corneal neovascularization. Ocular infectious diseases are an important cause of potentially preventable vision loss and blindness. In the following manuscript, we will review ocular immunology and the pathogenesis of herpesviruses and Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections of the cornea and posterior segment. We will highlight areas of future research and what is currently known to promote bench-to-bedside discoveries to improve clinical outcomes of these debilitating ocular diseases.

People infected with the mosquito-borne Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) can suffer from eye-related problems resulting in ongoing vision issues or even permanent blindness. Squint is unfortunately a neglected subject in our country. It is considered only a cosmetic problem without realising that any manifest squint is a one eyed blindness which results in lack of binocular vision. Consequently there is no stereopsis. The management should be undertaken at the earliest possible age when development of uni-ocular as well as binocular vision is taking place. Once the visual system is mature, only cosmetic appearance can be improved, but not the vision.
