This study evaluates the effect of three calcium levels in the diet (normal, moderate, and severe calcium depletion) on bone metabolism of male Wistar rats during their growth period. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Impaired sodium excretion in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) can drive fluid overload and hypertension and accelerate CKD progression. Diuretics reduce fluid overload but require residual kidney function to work. Adherence to dietary sodium restriction is generally poor. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) absorb light and can be used to heat and ablate tumors. The "tissue window" at ∼ 800 nm (near infrared, NIR) is optimal for best tissue penetration of light.
