Intracavernosal injection of vasoactive drugs is a safe, effective, and commonly used treatment for impotence in diabetic men. In prospective studies infection has rarely occurred. Of 211 patients with urethral strictures undergoing one-stage dartos pedicled island patch urethroplasty between 1970 and 1987, 194 have been followed up from 3 to 20 years. There was 1 post-operative death (from hepatitis). During the period of follow-up, strictures recurred in 14 patients (7%), some of them as late as 15 years after an apparently successful urethroplasty. Calculi forming on hairs required treatment in 6 patients (3%) and it was necessary to revise a redundant skin pouch in 6.

Simultaneous monitoring of penile diameter and penile arterial pulse during laboratory-based erotic stimulation with film and fantasy, has been used to compare diabetic and non-diabetic impotent men with non-impotent controls. A total of 9928 patients taking cimetidine and 9351 controls were included in a post-marketing drug surveillance study in Glasgow, Nottingham, Oxford and Portsmouth; 98.8 per cent of the takers and 97.7 per cent of the controls were successfully followed up for at least one year during which hospital visits and deaths were recorded. An improved technique for electroejaculation is described, with the results of applying it to 84 men with spinal injuries and five men with ejaculatory failure from other causes.
