18 F-fludeoxyglucose positron emission computed tomography (18 F-FDG-PET/CT) versus 68 Ga-DOTATATE-PET/CT in patients with head and neck cancer: Comparisons and implications for treatment.

BACKGROUND: Tumor-specific molecular imaging in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is not well established. Somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are found in solid tumors, including HNSCC. 68 Ga-DOTATATE, a commercially available radionuclide that binds SSTRs, may have utility in imaging HNSCC. METHODS: Patients with HNSCC received pretreatment imaging with 18 F-FDG-PET/CT and 68 Ga-DOTATATE. Imaging was compared for concordance. When available, surgical resection specimens were compared to pretreatment imaging findings. Historic HNSCC tumor specimens were assessed for both SSTR and p16/

Determinants of activity of brown adipose tissue in lymphoma patients.

The determinants of brown adipose tissue (BAT) activity are not yet known in detail but might serve as future therapeutic targets against obesity and the metabolic syndrome. We analyzed 235 datasets of lymphoma patients with two PET/CT examinations at different time points retrospectively. We assessed the anthropometric characteristics, features related to the metabolic syndrome, thyroid dysfunction, season of the PET/CT examination, weight change, prior cancer history, lymphoma subgroups, disease activity, and specific lymphoma-related therapies, and evaluated their association with BAT activ

A soluble phosphorylated tau signature links tau, amyloid and the evolution of stages of dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease.

Development of tau-based therapies for Alzheimer's disease requires an understanding of the timing of disease-related changes in tau. We quantified the phosphorylation state at multiple sites of the tau protein in cerebrospinal fluid markers across four decades of disease progression in dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease. We identified a pattern of tau staging where site-specific phosphorylation changes occur at different periods of disease progression and follow distinct trajectories over time. These tau phosphorylation state changes are uniquely associated with structural, metabolic, n

PET/CT-Guided Biopsy of Suspected Lung Lesions Requires Less Rebiopsy Than CT-Guided Biopsy Due to Inconclusive Results.

The purpose of this study was to compare 18F-FDG PET/CT and CT performance in guiding percutaneous biopsies with histologic confirmation of lung lesions. Methods: We prospectively evaluated 341 patients, of whom 216 underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT-guided biopsy and 125 underwent CT-guided biopsy. The pathology results, lesion size, complications, and rebiopsy rate in the 2 groups were evaluated. Results: Of the 216 biopsies with PET/CT guidance, histology demonstrated 170 lesions (78.7%) to be malignant and 46 (21.3%) to be benign. In the CT-guided group, of 125 lesions, 77 (61.6%) were malignant and

Bone Marrow Sarcoidosis with Pancytopenia and Renal Failure Presenting as Fever of Unknown Origin: The Pivotal Role of 18F-FDG PET/CT in Lesion Detection.

We describe a case of fever of unknown origin (FUO), renal failure, and pancytopenia. Initially, lymph proliferative disorder was suspected; therefore, bone marrow biopsy and 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) were performed. Bronchoscopy and lung biopsy were performed because of abnormal FDG uptake in both lung fields. Imaging data and laboratory and histological results confirmed sarcoidosis with bone marrow invasion. The patient was discharged after favorable response to corticosteroid therapy. Sarcoidosis may present as FUO without ty
