PROMIS computerized adaptive testing is effective and efficient for outcome assessment in patients with wrist or hand fractures.

INTRODUCTION: Various patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are available to assess functional outcomes in patients treated for wrist-hand fractures. Among the most frequently applied instruments are the Patient-Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation (PRWHE), Quick Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand and Short Musculoskeletal Function Assessment. Computerized adaptive tests (CATs) utilizing the PROM-Information System (PROMIS) offers a standardized alternative. This study compared the psychometric properties of PROMIS CATs with these three legacy instruments and assessed independent factors as

Clinical and Patient-Reported Outcomes Following Total Knee Revision for Arthrofibrosis Using Modern Rotating Hinged Knee Arthroplasty and Preoperative Radiation Therapy: A Single-Institution Retrospective Analysis.

PURPOSE: Arthrofibrosis is a debilitating complication following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) characterized by excessive fibroproliferation leading to restricted range of motion (ROM) and impaired function. Radiation therapy (RT) has demonstrated efficacy in modulating fibroblast activity in benign conditions, yet patient-reported outcomes following RT-assisted management of arthrofibrosis remain poorly defined. This study evaluates clinical and patient-reported outcomes in patients undergoing revision TKA for severe arthrofibrosis augmented with preoperative RT. METHODS AND MATERIALS: In th

Investigation of the interaction between shoulder and cervical vertebral pathologies in isolated shoulder pain: clinical and morphological aspects.

BACKGROUND: The anatomical interaction and overlap between the cervical vertebra and the shoulder presents a diagnostic challenge for both orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons. Musculoskeletal disorders, affecting 1.71 billion people globally, often involve shoulder pain, which is frequently linked to cervical issues. Understanding this connection is crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment. This study aimed to explore potential structural associations between annular bulging and shoulder pathologies in patients presenting with isolated shoulder pain. METHODS: Using a retrospective scree

Effect of telerehabilitation on the treatment of chronic nonspecific low back pain in the Afro-Brazilian population: a randomized controlled trial protocol.

BACKGROUND: Low back pain (LBP) is prevalent in 30-70% of populations in developed and industrialized nations, imposing substantial healthcare costs and work absenteeism. However, research addressing chronic nonspecific low back pain (CNLBP) within the Black population globally, remains limited, particularly studies considering the specific sociocultural and demographic factors affecting this group. Telerehabilitation offers a novel opportunity for physiotherapists to manage musculoskeletal conditions to facilitate remote care delivery. This study aims to evaluate the effect of graded activity

Effects of lunar gravity on the muscles, bones, and joint capsules of the upper limbs of mice.

BACKGROUND: Gravity (1 g) is crucial for musculoskeletal system development and maintenance. Reduced mechanical loading during spaceflight decreases muscle mass and bone mineral density in the lower limbs. However, its effects on the upper limbs remain poorly studied. In this study, we sought to elucidate the impact of lunar gravity on the muscles, bones, and joints of mouse upper limbs. METHODS: Using the Mouse Habitat Unit aboard the International Space Station, male C57BL/6J mice (9-weeks-old) were assigned to either a Ground Control (GC) or a Partial-Gravity (PG) group. PG group mice were…

Exosome-mediated macrophage polarization: advances in immunotherapeutic paradigms and mechanisms in skeletal system diseases.

Skeletal system diseases, including osteoarthritis (OA), osteoporosis (OP), and spinal cord injury (SCI), represent a growing global health burden, with chronic low-grade inflammation and macrophage polarization imbalance as shared pathological features. Exosomes have emerged as pivotal mediators of intercellular communication in the bone microenvironment. By delivering diverse bioactive cargoes-including microRNAs, long non-coding RNAs, and functional proteins-they can regulate macrophage phenotypes and modulate the balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory states. This review sy

Study of the normal response to the upper limb neurodynamic test 2b and 1 in asymptomatic violin and viola players.

BACKGROUND: Professional musicians exhibit a high prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, with nerve entrapment syndromes and dysfunctions of the peripheral nervous system accounting for a significant proportion of these issues. The radial and median nerves of the upper limb are among the most commonly injured nerves due to mechanical and repetitive work. The upper limb neurodynamic test for the radial nerve (ULNT2b) and the upper limb neurodynamic test for the median nerve (ULNT1) are two of the most frequently used tests to assess the mechanosensitivity of these nerves.
