Lumbar Bracing for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

PURPOSE: We performed this study to evaluate the effect of back bracing to treat patients with chronic low back pain. METHODS: This was a prospective, unblinded, randomized controlled trial of 61 adults with uncomplicated chronic low back pain (>12 wks) and imaging findings of degenerative spondylosis, to assess the effectiveness of a semirigid back brace. All study participants received back school instruction. The treatment group also received a lumbar orthosis and was instructed to wear it as needed for symptom relief. At baseline, 6 wks, 12 wks, and 6 mos after intervention, we collected:

High-dose cytarabine in upfront therapy for adult patients with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.

BACKGROUND: Hospitals in Switzerland accumulate substantial clinical data with enormous potential for medical research. The General Consent concept allows patients to contribute their health-related data and biological samples for future research projects. However, General Consent is a complex, multi-disciplinary concept influenced by ethical and legal considerations. At the University Hospital Zurich, Switzerland, General Consent status (known/unknown) and choice (yes/no) have been documented since 2015 and have demonstrated consistent increases in coverage rates. This study investigated soci

[Rehabilitee-management-categories (RMK)--results of the development phase and of the first clinical implementation in alcohol rehabilitation centres].

BACKGROUND: Due to the introduction of lump sum reimbursement systems for acute-care settings (DRGs), patient classification systems have been developed in Germany during the last 15 years to adapt a case-based lump sum system to the field of medical rehabilitation. The concept of Rehabilitee-Management-Categories (RMK), developed by the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, classifies rehabilitees primarily by their relevant impairments of activity and participation, as these factors mainly determine treatment needs and resources required in rehabilitation. It can, inter alia, be used to opti

Promoting and inhibiting factors for the implementation of evidence-based non-invasive treatment programs for patients with knee- and/or hip-osteoarthritis: a rapid review.

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis of the knee and/or hip joint are common conditions among older adults. Although multimodal therapy combining patient education, exercises and weight loss has proven effective, only a few countries offer implemented treatment programs. While some Scandinavian countries have achieved nationwide implementation, similar initiatives remain limited to research settings elsewhere. To date, limited evidence exists on factors that facilitate or hinder the successful implementation of these programs. This study therefore aims to synthesize scientific evidence on the implementa

A Comparative Analysis of Medial Versus Lateral Unicompartmental Arthroplasty: A Case-Matched Analysis of Patient-Reported Outcomes.

Introduction Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) is a bone-preserving alternative to total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for isolated compartmental osteoarthritis (OA). The medial compartment is most frequently affected due to varus malalignment, while lateral disease, associated with valgus alignment, is less common. Although UKA offers faster recovery and improved function compared to total knee replacement, direct comparisons between medial and lateral UKA outcomes are limited. This study aims to compare patient-reported outcomes between medial and lateral UKA using a retrospective case-matc

Arthroscopic Anterior and Inferior Labral Repair for Traumatic Shoulder Instability.

BACKGROUND: Anterior glenohumeral instability is common in the young and athletic population and can develop from a dislocation or subluxation event. Avulsion of the anterior inferior glenoid labrum (Bankart lesion) occurs in over 90% of these events. In patients who have unsuccessful conservative management or present with a high risk for redislocation, surgical intervention is indicated. This video presents our technique for arthroscopic anterior and inferior labral repair. INDICATIONS: In addition to those patients who have unsuccessful conservative management, surgical management of anter
