The cerebellum has a medial, cortico-nuclear zone consisting of the cerebellar vermis and the fastigial nucleus. Functionally, this zone is concerned with whole-body posture and locomotion. The vermis classically is thought to be included within the "spinocerebellum" and to receive somatic sensory input from ascending spinal pathways. In contrast, the lateral zone of the cerebellum is included in the "cerebro-cerebellum" because it is densely interconnected with the cerebral cortex. OBJECTIVE: To determine if differences exist in reported symptoms and in outcomes of sensorimotor tests (cervical joint position error [JPE], neck-influenced eye movement control, postural stability) between subjects with persistent whiplash and subjects with unilateral vestibular pathology associated with acoustic neuroma.
DESIGN: Repeated measures, case controlled.
SETTING: Tertiary institution and metropolitan hospital.
PARTICIPANTS: Twenty subjects with persistent whiplash, 20 subjects with acoustic neuroma, and 20 control subjects.

Early onset torsion dystonia (DYT1) is a dominantly inherited dystonia caused by a deletion of three bases, GAG, coding glutamic acid, in chromosome 9q34. The protein coded by this gene was named as torsin A. DYT1 is common among the Ashkenazi Jewish population, but has been thought to be rare among Japanese.
