The Impact of Maternal Nutrition Status on Maternal and Fetal Outcomes: A Prospective Observational Study.

BACKGROUND: Maternal body mass index (BMI) significantly influences both maternal and fetal outcomes. Changing socioeconomic factors in India have led to a rise in both obesity due to lifestyle factors and malnutrition due to poverty. Each extreme of BMI-underweight and overweight-has distinct risks. Overweight and obese women face complications, such as gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, and macrosomia, while underweight women are at higher risk of conditions, like intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), low birth weight, and anemia. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This observational stu

The association between atherogenic index of plasma and risk of preeclampsia: a prospective cohort study.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) has been linked to hypertension in general populations. However, the existing evidence concerning its association with preeclampsia risk remains limited. This study aimed to assess the relationship between first-trimester AIP level and preeclampsia risk. METHODS: 6028 singleton pregnant women from a birth cohort, all under 14 weeks of gestation and without a history of hypertension, were included. AIP was calculated as log10 (triglycerides/high-density lipoprotein cholesterol). Generalized linear models and restricted cubic spline reg

Owners' Experience and Satisfaction with Radioiodine Treatment in Hyperthyroid Cats-A Prospective Questionnaire Study.

Radioiodine (RAI) treatment (RAIT) is considered the gold standard for treatment of feline hyperthyroidism. This study aimed to assess owners' motivation, concerns and satisfaction with RAIT and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) changes in RAI-treated cats. Two surveys (before and six months post-RAIT) were sent to owners of cats scheduled for RAIT between April 2023 and March 2024. The owners of 78 and 68 cats completed the first and the second surveys, respectively. The main reasons for choosing RAIT were that RAIT was considered the gold standard treatment (n = 27/78; 35%) and difficul

The effect of nasal septum surgery on anterior maxillary teeth sensation - a prospective study.

INTRODUCTION: Nasal septum surgery has been associated with postoperative numbness or paresthesia of the anterior maxillary teeth, primarily involving the incisors and canines, with an incidence reported between 3% and 30%. This sensory alteration may result from trauma to the nasopalatine nerve or anterior superior alveolar nerve, which innervate the anterior maxilla. Current literature on this topic is limited, outdated, and primarily based on retrospective studies that lack long term follow-up. This study aims to investigate the impact of nasal septal surgery on anterior maxillary teeth sen

A Prospective Study Investigating the Health Outcomes of Bitches Neutered Prepubertally or Post-Pubertally.

There are scant studies of associations between the pubertal status at neutering and subsequent health outcomes of female dogs. This study examined health data for Labrador and Golden Retriever crossbreed bitches neutered by ovariohysterectomy either before (PrePN, n = 155) or after (PostPN, n = 151) puberty using a prospective study design. Data were extracted from an electronic database containing detailed health records for all bitches. Cruciate ligament disease occurred in significantly more PrePN (n = 11) than PostPN bitches (n = 1; Yates Chi-square = 6.784, D.F. = 1, p = 0.009), and PreP

Proximal Fibular Osteotomy in the Management of Medial Compartment Osteoarthritis of the Knee: A Prospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent chronic, progressive, degenerative condition in older individuals, characterized by joint pain, stiffness, and deformity. The rate of articular degeneration in weight-bearing areas exceeds that in non-weight-bearing regions of the joint, which subsequently calcify to form osteophytes. Patients who do not find relief from oral and topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and steroids may benefit from intra-articular injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and surgical interventions such as proximal fibular osteotomy (PFO), high t
