BACKGROUND: Long-term outcomes of transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) with balloon-expandable aortic prostheses remain uncertain.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term clinical and hemodynamic outcomes after TMVR.
METHODS: All patients undergoing TMVR at the authors' center were included. Balloon-expandable transcatheter heart valves were implanted in all cases, usually using a trans-septal approach. The primary outcome was a composite of death or mitral reintervention (surgical or transcatheter replacement or transplantation). Secondary outcomes included mort

OBJECTIVES: The study aimed to evaluate the demographic and clinical characteristics of evisceration cases and to assess the psychosocial effects of prosthesis usage using the newly defined Global Ocular Prosthesis Score (GOPS).
METHODS: The records of 245 patients who underwent evisceration surgery between January 2010 and May 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. The study included 216 eyes of 216 patients who had regular follow-up of at least 6 months. Their demographic characteristics, indications for surgery, surgical methods, implant size, and complications were recorded. A total of 175 p

BACKGROUND: Transcatheter valve-in-valve (VIV) implantation is an alternative option in inoperable or high-risk patients with prosthetic valve dysfunction. Aim of this retrospective multicenter study was to evaluate early and midterm clinical and hemodynamic outcomes of patients undergoing aortic (VIV-A) and mitral VIV (VIV-M).
METHODS: We analyzed data of 66 procedures performed in 65 patients who underwent VIV procedures in the VIV-A and VIV-M position at 5 Italian institutions from January 2008 to May 2015. VIV-A and VIV-M were 44 (68%) and 22 (32%), respectively; 1 patient underwent combi

The objective of this study was to assess hearing outcome after sequential cholesteatoma surgery stratified for exclusively transcanal technique (ETC), combined transcanal and transmastoidal technique (TCM) and canal wall down surgery (CWD) and to analyze the impact of ossicular reconstruction technique (partial ossicular replacement prostheses/PORP and total ossicular replacement prostheses/TORP) on hearing outcome. This study is a retrospective case review and clinical case study conducted in a tertiary referral center. Patients who underwent 376 cholesteatoma surgeries (2007-2009) and 92 ea

BACKGROUND AND AIM OF THE STUDY: Controversy exists regarding the optimal operative method or type of prosthesis for patients with a small aortic root. The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the early and mid-term outcomes of standard aortic valve replacement (AVR) using 16 mm or 18 mm ATS Advanced Performance (AP) or 17 mm St. Jude Medical (SJM) Regent valves for a small aortic root.
METHODS: Between April 2003 and August 2009, 78 patients (age range: 50-86 years; 86% aged > or = 65 years) underwent AVR with 16 mm or 18 mm ATS AP valves (16AP group: n = 21, 18AP group: n = 32

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the outcome and indication of surface-replacement total hip arthroplasty in the treatment of the femoral head osteonecrosis.
METHODS: The clinical data of 17 patients (21 hips) with femoral head osteonecrosis were reviewed. Among which, 10 cases were male and 7 cases were female, the average age was 36 years old (ranging from 25 to 51 years). There were 8 hips at Ficat stage III and 10 hips at Ficat stage IV. The 17 patients (21 hips) underwent surface-replacement total hip arthroplasty. Gibson posterolateral incision was used and non-cemented prosthesis was implanted.
