The association between substance use and physical victimization among incarcerated men in Spanish prisons.

Physical victimization and substance use are common behaviors inside prisons. Yet little is known about whether there is an association between substance use and physical victimization among male inmates. We examined the absolute and relative association between substance use (prior to, during, and both prior to and during incarceration) and physical victimization while incarcerated. For this study, 2484 men (mean age of 36.3years; SD=11.1) were sampled from eight prisons located in Spain. Information was collected using self-report questionnaires probing experiences of physical victimization

Descriptive analyses of knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding rabies transmission and prevention in rural communities near wildlife reserves in Uganda: a One Health cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Despite urban (domestic dog) rabies cycles being the main target for rabies elimination by 2030, sylvatic (wildlife) rabies cycles can act as rabies spillovers especially in settlements contiguous to wildlife reserves. Rural communities next to wildlife reserves are characterized by unique socio-demographic and cultural practices including bat consumption, hunting for bushmeat, and non-vaccination of hunting dogs against rabies among others. This study aimed to compare the knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAPs) related to rabies transmission and prevention in the three district

Knowledge, attitudes and prevention practices related to dog-mediated rabies in Ethiopia: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational epidemiological studies from inception to 2023.

BACKGROUND: Rabies is a horrific and neglected zoonotic disease that kills thousands of people worldwide each year and continues to pose threats to public health. Prevention and control of dog-transmitted rabies require mapping the level of understanding, perception, and existing practices to minimize its impacts on health. Therefore, we undertook this systematic review and meta-analysis to pool evidence from available data on knowledge, attitudes, and prevention practices regarding the disease from studies conducted in various areas of Ethiopia. METHODS: Articles were searched in electronic

[Implementing infection prevention and control: principles and barriers.].

Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are infections that occur during hospitalization or healthcare treatment, representing a major public health threat. They have serious consequences: clinical (deterioration of conditions, increased mortality and disability), economic (costs to families and healthcare systems), and legal (professional liability). A substantial proportion of HAIs are preventable. Antimicrobial resistance further complicates management, with multidrug-resistant strains on the rise in Europe and globally. A fundamental pillar of effective programs against HAIs and antibiotic

Tinea corporis and tinea cruris incidence, risk factors, and treatments in a cohort of 6.8 million patients with Medicaid, United States.

Tinea corporis and tinea cruris are common dermatophyte infections of increasing public health concern, yet national US data are limited. We estimated incidence, risk factors, and diagnostic and treatment practices among a large Medicaid-insured outpatient cohort. Among ∼6 800 000 enrollees, 54 108 were diagnosed with tinea corporis (79.1/10 000 person-years) and 8386 with tinea cruris (12.2/10 000 person-years). Tinea corporis primarily affected young children and Black patients, while tinea cruris was prevalent among middle-aged men. Overall, <10% received diagnostic testing, and 7%-10% were

Early Warning Signs for Monitoring Airborne Respiratory Virus Transmission.

Airborne respiratory viruses (e.g., influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and SARS-CoV-2) continue to pose a serious threat to global public health due to their ability to spread through multiple transmission pathways. Among these, aerosol transmission stands out as a key route, particularly in enclosed environments. However, current monitoring systems have major limitations in sensitivity, standardization, and high time resolution. This study provides a summary of the latest information on the monitoring technologies for respiratory virus aerosols. It discusses the technical and ethic
