OBJECTIVES: To report the results of using supportive therapy only, rather than antibiotics, in managing boys with acute sterile epididymitis.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From 1991 to 1995, 48 boys presented with acute epididymitis. The diagnosis was confirmed by radionuclide scan in 43 cases, ultrasonography in one, surgical exploration in one and physical examination in three. Urine was collected for microscopy and culture: if pyuria was detected, antibiotics were prescribed. If the urine analysis was normal, the patient was advised to minimize physical activity and analgesics were prescribed.

Squamous cell carcinoma is the second most common skin cancer in humans and has a rate of metastasis of 0.5%-5.9%. Regional lymphadenectomy is generally not recommended for patients with advanced lesions and clinically node-negative disease. We compared the detectability of 99mTc-MIBI and 201T1-chloride for primary lung cancer and mediastinal lymph node metastasis. A 50-year-old woman sustaining a noninvasive thymoma accompanied by hyperparathyroidism is presented. Although this is the third case report to date in the literature of the combination of these two diseases, the patient did not evidence the myasthenia gravis cited in the two previous reports. In the two years following concomitant extended thymectomy and resection of the right superior parathyroid gland, including the adenoma, the patient has been following a favorable course without recurrence.

A rare case of sarcoidosis with massive pleural and pericardial effusion in 30-year-old female patient was presented. Diagnosis was established on the basis of the specimen examination of bronchial mucosa and lymph nodes. Suspicion of heart sarcoidosis was supported by radioisotopic examination. Following steroid therapy, fast disappearance of the pathological changes was observed.

High degree posterior rotational osteotomy was performed on 31 hips with extensive osteonecrosis that were outside of Sugioka's indication. Among them, 18 hips of 13 patients were reviewed at 24 to 94 months (mean, 42 months). The remaining 13 hips were excluded because the followup was less than 2 years. Idiopathic osteonecrosis of the medial femoral condyle is a well recognized cause of spontaneous, sudden onset of severe pain, usually at the anteromedial aspect of the knee joint. Four patients with solitary autonomously functioning thyroid nodule (AFTN; 2 toxic and 2 subclinically toxic) received ultrasonography (US)-guided percutaneous ethanol injection therapy (PEIT). A 42-year old woman with hyperparathyroidism had a CT scan that was suggestive of a small nodular lesion in the left lower neck. Tc-99m sestamibi and Tc-99m tetrofosmin parathyroid imaging were performed 10 minutes and 2 hours after tracer injection. Early imaging with Tc-99m sestamibi demonstrated thyroid and focal uptake in the left lower neck. On delayed imaging, findings suggested a parathyroid adenoma. Imaging with Tc-99m tetrofosmin demonstrated similar findings. The abnormal parathyroid gland was an adenoma.

The distribution of inhaled radio preparation has been studied in 7 cases of main bronchus neoplasms and 25 healthy subjects. Patterns of radio aerosols deposition have been followed versus regime of inhalation. Application of said procedure serves to improve the existing methods of radio inhalation scintigraphy as well as diagnostic procedures for tumors of main bronchi which X-ray examination and functional assessment of external respiration fail to detect.
