Esophagogastrectomy for carcinoma of the esophagus or cardia has been performed in 32 patients with histologically proven hepatic cirrhosis. Ten infants with critical aortic stenosis underwent transventricular valvotomy between November 1983 and September 1984. The ages of the patients ranged from 1 to 38 days (mean 21.2 days). Thirty patients with systemic necrotizing vasculitis (SNV) of the polyarteritis nodosa type were reviewed. Eleven patients (36%) had only gastrointestinal manifestations of the disease. On the whole there are more than 50% of the patients where the tumour is already inoperable at the time of diagnosis.
