Francisella tularensis subsp. tularensis (type A) strain SCHU S4 is a prototypic strain of the pathogen that is highly virulent for humans and other mammals. The present open pilot study was conducted to assess the efficacy of azithromycin for the treatment of patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis in Ara ua and Varzelândia, MG. Twenty-four patients with less of six months of disease evolution were treated after clinical examination, Montenegro test and a biopsy. Few data exist on the operative and pathological findings in patients having undergone previous percutaneous ethanol injection (PEI) therapy of thyroid nodules. We report here our experience with 13 patients operated on by the same surgical team. Two pathologists, both blinded to the previous PEI treatment, carried out histological evaluation. Eczematous skin disease is a serious work-related illness. Since 1995, reimbursement by insurance companies for treatment of skin diseases has become the largest cost source in some countries. This study was a randomized controlled trial (N = 20) of the efficacy of Pro-Q, a skin protectant product, in the prevention of contact dermatitis from sodium lauryl sulfate and urushiol, the resinous sap of poison ivy and poison oak. Pro-Q was significantly effective in reducing the irritation from sodium lauryl sulfate but did not prevent the allergic reaction to urushiol.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the possible effects of topical testosterone as maintenance therapy after clobetasol propionate treatment.
STUDY DESIGN: Thirty-two patients with biopsy-proven vulvar lichen sclerosus (LS), after 24 weeks of treatment with 0.05% clobetasol propionate cream, were randomly distributed into two groups of 16 each and treated for a further length of time (24 weeks) with testosterone 2% ointment or a cream-based preparation (placebo).
