Unraveling the many faces of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma: clinical, pathological, and molecular heterogeneity.

Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) is a subtype of peripheral T-cell lymphoma originating from follicular helper T cells and characterized by profound clinical, pathological, and molecular heterogeneity. Despite advances in classification and diagnosis, therapeutic outcomes remain suboptimal, particularly in relapsed or refractory settings. In recent years, the evolution of risk stratification models and a deeper understanding of AITL’s molecular pathogenesis, including its unique pattern of clonal evolution, have paved the way for precision medicine. Notably, targeted treatment approac

Biomimetic inhalable nanovesicles for enhanced cardiac therapy of heart failure following myocardial infarction.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide, and myocardial infarction (MI) frequently progresses to heart failure despite advances in contemporary therapies. A major barrier to the clinical translation of cardioprotective biologics is the lack of noninvasive, organ-targeted delivery systems suitable for repeated administration. Although inhalation is an attractive route for systemic delivery, strategies that efficiently direct inhaled nanocarriers from the lung to the injured heart remain limited. In a murine MI model, inhaled PPL showed greater accumulation

[Research Progress on Microbiome-Driven Mechanisms and Intervention Strategies for Oral Malodor].

Oral malodor, a common oral symptom, is primarily caused by the metabolic activities of oral microorganisms. The characteristic odors mainly originate from volatile sulfur compounds produced and released by oral bacteria (such as Fusobacterium nucleatum and Porphyromonas gingivalis) through specific enzymatic systems that break down sulfur-containing amino acids in saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, and food debris. Research indicates that various factors, including periodontitis, fungal infections, smoking, and obesity, can worsen oral malodor by altering the oral microenvironment. For preven

Abstract submissions to the ERA Congress: what they tell us about nephrology's trajectory.

submission trends to the ERA Congress provide a valuable lens through which to observe the evolution of nephrology research and education. Analysing submissions from 2020 to 2026, we document a marked recovery following the COVID-19 disruption, culminating in a record number of abstracts for the 2026 Congress in Glasgow. Beyond volume, notable shifts have occurred in subject mix, geographic participation and reviewer scoring patterns. Chronic kidney disease and glomerular disorders now dominate submissions, reflecting major scientific advances and changing clinical priorities, while internatio

Advances in Antiviral Drug Development Targeting Enteroviruses: From Viral Proteins to Host Factors.

Enteroviruses represent important human pathogens, posing a substantial disease burden, particularly in children under 5 years of age. Enteroviruses are the primary causative agents of hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) and are strongly associated with acute flaccid myelitis (AFM), with severe cases potentially resulting in significant neurological complications. Inactivated vaccines against EV-A71 based on the C4 genotype are currently available. However, there are no licensed direct antiviral agents for severe cases. By focusing on viral proteins and host factors, researchers have made great

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.

Chemokines and their cognate receptors are central orchestrators of the immune response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) infection. While their overall significance in tuberculosis (TB) is well-established, this review synthesizes recent advances to clarify the distinct roles of CC and CXC chemokines in differentiating active disease, latent infection, and the often overlooked subclinical TB state. We evaluate the potential of specific chemokine signatures as emerging diagnostic biomarkers compared to conventional standards and assess their promise as novel therapeutic targets in personaliz

Developmental change in acquiring overhearable words from naturalistic contexts.

Overhearable speech constitutes over half of children's language exposure, but its role in language development remains underexplored. This study compares children's recognition of words that parents reported as primarily overhearable to children (i.e., "high-overheardness" words) with words that parents reported as primarily directed to children (i.e., "low-overheardness" words). We tested 79 predominantly White and mixed-race US English-learning children at 18, 24, and 30 months (data collection period: 2023.12-2024.04). We then re-tested the 18-month-olds at 24 months (N = 21). Results show

Organoids as brain tumour models: bridging the translational gap.

Advances in stem cell-derived brain organoids, enabled by the generation of human reprogrammed pluripotent stem cells, have significantly expanded the repertoire of models available for brain tumour research. These approaches have predominantly been applied to glioblastoma and medulloblastoma, leveraging brain region-specific cerebral/cortical or cerebellar organoids, respectively. Organoids have the potential to close the gap between current two-dimensional cell-based brain tumour models and patients, while helping to address the limitations of animal models. In this At a Glance article, we o

[Advances in Systemic Therapy for Extensive-stage Small Cell Lung Cancer
in the Era of Precision Treatment].

Extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) is characterized by rapid progression, a high risk of recurrence, and poor prognosis, and remains a major therapeutic challenge in lung cancer. In recent years, immune checkpoint inhibitors combined with Platinum-Etoposide chemotherapy have become the standard first-line treatment for ES-SCLC, driving a shift from conventional chemotherapy toward multimodal combination strategies and precision-guided patient stratification, while creating both new opportunities and challenges for further therapeutic improvement. Following the clinical treatment

Practical approach to quantitative liver and pancreas MRI in children.

Quantitative abdominal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers non-invasive, objective assessment of diseases in the liver, pancreas, and other organs and is increasingly being used in the pediatric population. Certain quantitative MRI techniques, such as liver proton density fat fraction (PDFF), R2* mapping, and MR elastography, are already in wide clinical use. Other techniques, such as liver T1 mapping and pancreas quantitative imaging methods, are emerging and show promise for enhancing diagnostic sensitivity and treatment monitoring. Quantitative imaging techniques have historically requi

Significance and mechanisms of perineural invasion in malignant tumors.

Cancer remains the second leading cause of death worldwide. Tumor invasion and metastasis pose significant challenges for clinical management. In addition to the traditional pathways of metastasis such as hematologic or lymphatic transmission, perineural invasion (PNI) has become a unique mechanism of metastasis, which is closely associated with neuropathic pain, motor deficits, and poor prognosis. PNI is often observed in malignant tumors of the pancreas, head and neck, gastrointestinal tract, and lungs, and it reflects a unique neurotropic transfer behavior utilizing neural networks. Despite

The puzzling Spitz tumours: is artificial intelligence the key to their understanding?

Since their first description in 1948, Spitz tumours remain one of the most challenging diagnostic entities in dermatopathology due to their complex histological features and ambiguous clinical behaviour. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) solutions have demonstrated significant potential across a wide range of medical applications, including computational pathology, for decision-making in diagnosis, along with promising advances in prognosis and tumour classification. However, the application of AI to Spitz tumours remains relatively underexplored, with few studies addressing this

Neurophysiological profiles underlying action withholding and action discarding.

Although inhibitory control is essential to goal-directed behavior, not all inhibition is the same: Previous research distinguished discarding an action plan from simply withholding it, suggesting separate neurophysiological mechanisms. This study tracks the neurophysiological signatures of both using time-frequency transformation and beamforming in n = 34 healthy individuals. We show that discarding an action plan reduces working memory load, with stronger initial theta band activity compared to withholding it. This oscillatory difference was localized in the (para-)hippocampus and anterior t

Rare cause of extrapulmonary tuberculosis in an immunocompetent elderly patient.

Tubercular hepatic abscesses in the geriatric population are rare and often misdiagnosed, frequently leading to delayed or presumptive treatment based on tissue biopsy findings. Early and accurate diagnosis using advanced diagnostic tools is crucial for improving prognosis. We present the case of a 65-year-old immunocompetent male who reported a three-month history of fever and one month of right hypochondrial pain. Diagnosis of a tubercular hepatic abscess was confirmed using a cartridge-based nucleic acid amplification test (CBNAAT), which isolated Mycobacterium tuberculosis sensitive to rif
