This report described a case of the wry nose and rhinolith patients. A 25 years old female patient complained a sense of persistent left side of nasal congestion runny with 10 years. During the 10 years the symptom repeatedly occurrence, aggravated with peculiar smell of 1 months. A combined treatment including endoscopic sinus surgery with correction of the deviated nose and removal of nasal stone was performed in the patient.Three monthsafter operation, the patient recovered well, without recurrence, external nasal deformity, foreign bodies remain.

Mesenteric panniculitis is a nonspecific inflammation involving the mesentery. Its clinical presentation is variable depending on the stage of the disease. Phantom limb phenomena are well characterized, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here we report a patient who relieves his phantom sensations and pain, experienced as itching and cramping, through scratching or massaging his prosthesis or the leg of another person. This pain relief occurs only when phantom limb sensations are present. We hypothesize that symptom relief results from incorporation of the foreign limb into the patient's body image, mediated by the sensory mirror neuron system, relieving pain by restoring concordance between sensory systems.

A 15-year-old, female, formerly obese adolescent was referred to our day care clinic due to self-induced massive weight loss and depressive symptoms. Intense treatment, additional dialectical behavioral therapy and psychopharmacological treatment prevented further weight loss and improved her affective state. Due to remaining anorexic symptoms such as body image distortion, outpatient psychotherapeutic treatment is continued. This case report indicates the importance of further research on diagnostic crossover from obesity to atypical anorexia nervosa.

A 56-year-old man underwent triphasic computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen as part of his work-up for liver transplantation. A mottled, rounded lesion with a dense rim was noted in the gastric lumen, which remained unchanged in appearance in the arterial, portal venous, and delayed phases of the CT. Gastroscopy performed three days later confirmed the presence of trichobezoar. The foreign body was broken down into smaller pieces by an endoscopic snare and was passed out spontaneously. The clinical presentation, radiological findings, and management of trichobezoars are discussed.

Rat liver cirrhosis induced by CCl4+ethanol was employed to assess the effectiveness of nifedipine in reducing liver injury. Nifedipine reduced the severity of hepatocellular necrosis, significantly decreased Mallory bodies (p < 0.01), decreased polymorphonuclear inflammatory infiltrate (p < 0.05) and reduced perivenular fibrosis. Plasma lactic acid levels were significantly increased in the CCl4+ethanol group (p < 0.01). Lactacidaemia remained at normal values when the calcium antagonist blocker was employed. Nifedipine did not significantly alter the incidence of cirrhosis in this experiment

Respiratory mode determination using the simultaneous nasal and oral respirometric technique (SNORT) or a head-out body plethysmography can be time-consuming, expensive, and intimidating to children. We have developed an improved method for assessing respiratory mode that uses inductive plethysmography linked to a menu-driven computer program that circumvents some of these problems. An assessment of 29 subjects over as many as nine separate time points suggests that respiratory mode measurements remain fairly uniform in some children, but can vary significantly in others.

A 9-year-old girl was wounded by a pencil which entered the right orbit and passed towards the left. The broken part remained inside. The diagnosis was delayed for 9 months since the history and the symptoms were misleading. The pencil, which could not be detected with plain X-rays, was demonstrated with computerized tomography (CT) and removed from the orbit successfully. We report a rare case of squamous cell carcinoma located in the middle mediastinum as a solitary mass. Histologically, lymphatic tissues remained together with nests of squamous cell carcinoma which were occupying the greater part of the mass. Examinations of the whole body failed to detect a primary site of the squamous cell carcinoma. It is considered that the carcinoma cells reflect metastasis from a primary-unknown carcinoma (most likely TO lung squamous cell carcinoma) or that they originated from benign epithelial inclusions in a mediastinal lymph node.

Fatale haemoptysis occurred as a result of circumferential caustic erosion to the right intermediate bronchus caused by a tablet of ferrous sulphate which remained in contact for 4 days. Various bone cements containing zirconium oxide (ZrO2) as X-ray contrast medium were tested for radioactivity by means of a gamma spectrometer. All measured bone cements (PALACOS, IMPLAST, SULFIX-6) showed a certain degree of radioactivity. The radiation source in the bone cement is the added zirconium oxide, which is polluted by radioactive elements. As these X-ray contrast media remain in the body for decades as components of the bone cement, the radioactive zirconium oxides should be substituted by high purity radiation-free zirconium oxide or barium sulfate.

Acute ischaemic left ventricular failure was induced in closed-chest anaesthetized dogs by injection of 50 microns plastic microspheres into the left main coronary artery. This effected a 33% decrease in cardiac output. Dopamine and high doses of insulin restored cardiac output, and these agents in combination raised cardiac output to 34% above pre-ischaemic levels. Total body oxygen consumption was calculated at the various levels of cardiac output, and was found to remain essentially unchanged. Inotropic agents, then, may result in overperfusion with respect to oxygen demand.

In a house to house study of leprosy cases at Jaipur (148) a majority (91) had NL leprosy, 50 had LL leprosy and remaining 7 had indeterminate leprosy. More cases (84.5%) had a poor housing, overcrowding, low socioeconomic status. Out of 59 persons giving history of contact a majority had it at home and others at work places. The period of contact was more than five years in 74.6% cases. Most of the cases had lesions on exposed or easily accessible parts of the body.

A series of patients with esophageal injuries was reviewed to evaluate the role of conservative management of these injuries. Between 1962 and 1978, we treated 108 esophageal injuries. In 74 percent of the cases, the injury was probably iatrogenic. Foreign bodies were the most frequent cause of noniatrogenic esophageal injury. Sixty-eight patients underwent surgery, while the remaining 40 patients received conservative treatment. Of 11 deaths in the series, eight occurred among the surgically treated group. Methods of treatment are discussed, and illustrative cases presented.
