Several studies have examined the occurrence of eating disorders in athletes. However, little has been written about the frequency and phenomenology of compulsive exercising in eating disorder (ED) patients. The body height and weight, and sizes of dental arches in 116 patients with isolated cleft palate were evaluated at 16.9-20.6 years of age. Three types of rat hyperthermic seizures were observed. The first comprised generalized clonic convulsions preceded by intermittent myoclonus. Ictal EEG showed diffuse intermittent spikes and sequential rapid spike-wave bursts (type 1 seizures). The rare syndrome of the agnathia with microstomia, aglossia, synotia (the external ears approaching one another in the midline) and brain malformation (agnathia-holoprosencephaly) was reported by Pauli et al. (1983) as a developmental field defect. This syndrome has two subgroups. One is more severe with brain malformation (holoprosencephaly), and the other is less severe without brain malformation. Pre- and post-operative growth was analysed in eight children with Cushing syndrome. Six children had Cushing's disease; three of them were treated by bilateral adrenalectomy and three by transphenoidal pituitary adenectomy. Five patients with anorexia nervosa were treated using a cognitive behavioural approach which was an adaptation of an established treatment for the related eating disorder, bulimia nervosa. The results were mixed. For patients with episodes of bulimia the outcome was sufficiently promising to merit more systematic research.

Previous studies of amlnourished infants have shown that their psychomotor development improves parallel to their nutritional rehabilitation. The present study showed that our patients recovered weight-for-age faster than height-for-age, becoming 42% obese at the end of the treatment. The psychomotor development was also significantly improved, but mainly in social, language and fine coordination areas. The gross motor behaviour did not show any improvement during 5 months of treatment. These results are interpreted in terms of the syndrome of dissociation of maturation.
