AIM: To evaluate whether shift work is associated with an increased rate of peptic ulcer in H pylori infected workers.
METHODS: During a two year period, consecutive dyspeptic workers underwent non-invasive evaluation of H pylori status by means of urea 13C breath test or stool testing. Those testing positive were included in the study and divided into two main categories: day-time workers and shift workers. An upper gastrointestinal endoscopy was performed in all workers, and biopsy specimens were taken from the stomach to confirm the presence of H pylori infection (culture and histology).

The present study examined the mechanism by which metformin prevents dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)-induced embryonic resorption in mice. Treatment with DHEA (6 mg/100 g bodyweight, 24 and 48 h post implantation) induced 88 +/- 1 % embryonic resorption and the diminution of both serum oestradiol (E) and progesterone (P) levels. In this retrospective study, the surgical outcome of patients with intrasylvian hematomas due to rupture of intracranial aneurysms was analyzed. The authors studied ten patients who underwent aneurysm surgery and evacuation of the hematoma within 12 h of the onset of bleeding. All patients had an intrasylvian hematoma classified with computerized tomography and all patients underwent pre-operative angiography. In all patients, the origin of bleeding was a middle cerebral artery aneurysm, with the exception of one patient whose bleeding originated from a posterior communicating artery aneurysm.
