Factors Influencing Cannibalistic Behavior of Tiger Puffer, Takifugu rubripes: Insights into Teeth and Stocking Density Aspects.

The current study explored the factors influencing the cannibalistic behavior of tiger puffer (Takifugu rubripes) based on different stocking densities and tooth clipping. Two separate experiments were carried out in this study. In the experiment testing different stocking densities, fish were reared in 300 L circular tanks with different initial stocking densities of 20, 40, and 80 fish per tank. In the experiment testing tooth clipping, some fish underwent tooth clipping treatment, while the other fish without tooth clipping served as the control. The growth results showed that high initial

Bioactive compounds from Psilocybe cubensis mycelial cultures with transient anxiolytic effects in mice.

The growing percentage of people suffering from drug-resistant depression increases interest in alternative therapies, particularly the usage of psychedelics such as psilocybin. The main source of psilocybin is the Psilocybe cubensis species. Due to the potential therapeutic benefits of psilocybin and the legal restrictions on its possession and use in the form of fungal fruiting bodies, this research work documents an attempt to obtain in vitro P. cubensis mycelium in which psilocybin and other biologically active substances acting on the central nervous system would be present. It was hypoth

De Novo transcriptome assembly of Ligula intestinalis (Linnaeus, 1758) Gmelin, 1790 (Cestoda: Diphyllobothriidae) plerocercoids and their host, the common bream Abramis Brama L. (Cypriniformes: Leuciscidae): model for studying host-parasite interactions.

BACKGROUND: Ligula intestinalisis a parasitic tapeworm with a complex life cycle. During the procercoid stage, they parasitize copepods. Later, the cestodes develop into plerocercoids in the body cavity of plankton-feeding fish before finally maturing within the intestines of piscivorous birds. The impact of plerocercoid infection on hosts may be dramatic, including organ compression, disrupted maturation and reproduction, and alter behavior. These effects, which are mediated by neuroendocrine and immunomodulatory mechanisms, can also lead to a mass fish kill. L. intestinalis and their host fi

Large-Scale Exploration of Whole-Brain Structural Connectivity in Anorexia Nervosa: Alterations in the Connectivity of Frontal and Subcortical Networks.

BACKGROUND: Anorexia nervosa (AN) is characterized by disturbances in cognition and behavior surrounding eating and weight. The severity of AN combined with the absence of localized brain abnormalities suggests distributed, systemic underpinnings that may be identified using diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and tractography to reconstruct white matter pathways. METHODS: Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging data acquired from female patients with AN (n= 147) and female healthy control (HC) participants (n = 119), ages 12 to 40 years, were combined across 5 studies. AChR is partly responsible in mice depressive-like behavior after Phosalone exposure.

BACKGROUND: Phosalone (Pln) is an organophosphorus pesticide acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitor. Blockade of AChE amplifies ACh signaling that is related to depressive symptoms. The effects of Pln exposure were evaluated on depressive behavior in mice and the involvement of muscarinic ACh receptor (MAChR) was assessed. MATERIAL AND METHODS: After measuring total activity in the locomotor test the immobility time during the forced swimming test (FST) in male mice was evaluated as an index of depression. Pln single dose was administered by gavage feeding and examined after 3 h (day1) and on

Increased rates of eating disorders and their symptoms in women with major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with eating disorders (EDs) have increased rates of major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety disorders. Yet, few studies have investigated rates of EDs and their symptoms in individuals presenting with MDD/anxiety disorders. Identifying potential disordered eating in people with MDD/anxiety disorders is important because even subclinical disordered eating is associated with reduced quality of life, and undiagnosed eating pathology may hinder treatment progress for both MDD/anxiety disorders and comorbid EDs. METHOD: We compared rates of EDs (anorexia nervosa, bulimi

[Pup-Associated Conditioned Place Preference and Maternal Behavior in Depressive WAG/Rij Rats].

Elaboration of conditioned place preference (CPP) associated with own and foster pups, and maternal behavior were compared in females of WAG/Rij and Wistar rats. In addition, behavior of females in the open field, elevated plus-maze and forced swimming tests were investigated before pregnancy and after pup delivery. In has been found that females of WAG/Rij rats elaborate worse CPP task associated with both their own (WAG/Rij) and foster (Wistar) pups. Thus, the number of females that increase time spent in initially non-preferred compartment after its association with pups and the number of f

Detection of amino acid deprivation in the central nervous system.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To understand the principles of amino acid deprivation sensing in the brain and its behavioral and metabolic outcomes with an emphasis on the current literature. RECENT FINDINGS: Sensing essential amino acid (EAA) depletion occurs in the anterior piriform cortex (APC) via general control nonderepressible 2 (GCN2) binding to deacylated tRNA and subsequent glutamatergic signaling to influence behavior. Mapping of the APC output during EAA insufficiency shows axons projecting to the hypothalamus as well as other regions that are involved in feeding and locomotion. Whereas thes

Severe NAFLD with hepatic necroinflammatory changes in mice fed trans fats and a high-fructose corn syrup equivalent.

The aims of this study were to determine whether combining features of a western lifestyle in mice with trans fats in a high-fat diet, high-fructose corn syrup in the water, and interventions designed to promote sedentary behavior would cause the hepatic histopathological and metabolic abnormalities that characterize nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Male C57BL/6 mice fed ad libitum high-fat chow containing trans fats (partially hydrogenated vegetable oil) and relevant amounts of a high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) equivalent for 1-16 wk were compared with mice fed standard chow or mice with

Motivational effects of cannabinoids and opioids on food reinforcement depend on simultaneous activation of cannabinoid and opioid systems.

Strong functional interactions exist between endogenous cannabinoid and opioid systems. Here, we investigated whether cannabinoid-opioid interactions modulate motivational effects of food reinforcement. In rats responding for food under a progressive-ratio schedule, the maximal effort (break point) expended to obtain 45 mg pellets depended on the level of food deprivation, with free-feeding reducing break points and food-deprivation increasing break points. Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC; 0.3-5.6 mg/kg intrapeitoneally (i.p.)) and morphine (1-10 mg/kg i.p.) dose-dependently increased break

The association between career stress and disordered eating behaviors in university students: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: University students often experience high levels of stress due to uncertainty about their future careers, competitive job markets, and economic instability. Such stress may not only relate to general well-being but also be associated with maladaptive coping behaviors, including emotional or uncontrolled eating. Understanding these associations is crucial for identifying potential correlates of stress-related disordered eating patterns. This study aimed to examine the relationship between career stress and disordered eating behavior among university students, and to evaluate the mod

Fad dieting and psychological well-being.

BACKGROUND: Fad diets--the popularity of which is often spread through social media--promise unrealistic weight loss with unrealistically easily employed methods in short periods of time. Many such diets are known to carry risks from a purely nutritional perspective (e.g., juice diet, grapefruit only diet) and overly restrictive diets are also suspected to be a risk factor for psychological well-being. METHODS: Data was collected from 584 respondents. To our knowledge, the current study is one of the first of its kind to explore the extent to which fad dieting is in fact associated with psych

Safety of fenbendazole in Chinese ring-necked pheasants (Phasianus colchicus).

Ring-necked pheasants raised on propagation farms can be severely parasitized with Syngamus trachea (gapeworm) and other parasitic worms. Fenbendazole is a highly effective benzimidazole-class anthelmintic that is not currently approved for game bird species in the United States. The objective of this work was to provide target animal safety data to support a label claim for fenbendazole in pheasants at 100 parts per million (ppm) in the feed for 7 consecutive days. Demonstration of safety in young pheasants and a separate demonstration of reproductive safety in adult birds were required. In t
