R2. was derived from aliphatic substances such as methanol, ethanol, or 2-propanol by homolytic abstraction of a hydrogen atom brought about by R1. from the azo compounds.

A direct injection method has been developed for the determination of salicylic acid and its metabolites in urine. Urine samples are treated with hydroxylamine to convert salicyl acyl glucuronide to salicylhydroxamic acid, which can be accurately quantitated by direct injection into a high-performance liquid chromatographic system along with salicylic acid, gentisic acid and salicyluric acid. A radioimmunoassay for thyrotrophin releasing hormone (TRH) in human serum is described. Inactivation of TRH immunoreactivity by serum is prevented by a mixture of 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphate and Tween 20. This persisted for a long period and at the concentration used in this study did not affect the TRH value. The TRH was extracted from serum with methanol. The results of the recovery experiment, dilution curve of high TRH serum, intra-assay reproducibility and inter-assay variation were quite satisfactory. Previous studies in this laboratory demonstrated that the rate of intestinal absorption of theophylline in rats is increased significantly by ethanol in low concentrations and that this absorption enhancing effect is associated with an increased net water flux from the intestine. We present a novel copper-catalyzed method for aniline cross-couplings promoted by a 6-hydroxy picolinhydrazide ligand. Two new sphingolipid glucosides, odoraside A (1) and odoraside B (2), have been isolated from chloroform-soluble fraction of the total methanolic extract of Klienia odora, together with five known compounds, β-sitosterol (3), oleanolic acid (4), betulone (5), 2,3-dihydroxy-12-oleanen-28-oic acid (6), and β-sitosterol 3-O-β-d-glucopyranoside (7). Their structures were assigned from (1)H and (13)C NMR spectra, DEPT and by 2D COSY, NOESY, HMQC, and HMBC experiments.

Investigations were carried out to evaluate the effect of Ipomoea aquatica aqueous and dichloromethane/methanol extracts on the glucose absorption using a rat intestinal preparation in situ. Extracts orally tested at the dose of 160 mg/kg exerted a significant inhibitory effect on glucose absorption when compared with control animals. Increased retention and selectivity in the subcritical fluid chromatography (SFC) of various amine compounds on polysaccharide chiral stationary phases (CSP) was observed upon incorporation of cyclic amines into the modifier. The antitussive activity of a methanol extract of Jussiaea suffruticosa Linn. (MEJS) (family Onagraceae) leaves has been evaluated for its potential on a cough induced by sulphur dioxide (SO(2)) gas model in mice. The extract (MEJS) showed significant antitussive activity in a dose dependent manner. The antitussive potential of MEJS was comparable to that of codeine phosphate (10 mg/kg), a standard drug. The extract (MEJS) at a dose level of 200 and 400 mg/kg, p.o. showed appreciable inhibition on the cough reflex by 48.52% and 59.8% respectively during 120 min of the experiment.
