Impact of a standardized documentation template on hospital case mix index and reimbursement for patients with traumatic brain and spine injuries.

OBJECTIVE: The case mix index (CMI) measures the complexity and severity of hospitalized patients and is used to determine hospital reimbursement rates. Better documentation is associated with higher complexity assigned to cases as measured by CMI but remains understudied in the trauma population. The authors hypothesized that standardized templates for neurotrauma history and physical (H&P) notes are associated with increased CMI and reimbursement. METHODS: A multidisciplinary team consisting of trauma program professionals, trauma data specialists, neurosurgeons, revenue integrity specialis

Advance Care Planning During Healthcare Transitions for Community-Dwelling Older Adults in Their End of Life: A Scoping Review.

BACKGROUND: Older adults often experience unplanned hospital admissions at the end of life, which may conflict with their wish to remain at home. Advance care planning (ACP) can help align care with patient preferences, but timely discussions and documentation are often lacking. Effective communication across healthcare settings is therefore essential. AIM: To explore how ACP is delivered for community-dwelling older adults, focusing on intervention components, communication during care transitions and related barriers and facilitators. DESIGN: A scoping review conducted according to Joanna

A tool for Dravet syndrome-associated neuropsychiatric comorbidities evaluation (DANCE).

BACKGROUND: Dravet syndrome (DS) is a rare and severe form of epilepsy that begins in infancy, which is primarily caused by pathogenic variants in the SCN1A gene. DS is characterized by prolonged and frequent drug-resistant seizures, as well as developmental delays and behavioral problems. The identification of these comorbidities is based on clinical interview and relies on healthcare professionals (HCPs) experience. METHODS: We assembled a group of expert HCPs and caregivers to create a screening checklist for assessing DS-Associated Neuropsychiatric Comorbidities (DANC). The checklist incl

A longitudinal mixed methods study on changes in body weight, body composition, and lifestyle in breast cancer patients during chemotherapy and in a comparison group of women without cancer: study protocol.

BACKGROUND: More than 60% of women diagnosed with early stage breast cancer receive (neo)adjuvant chemotherapy. Breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy often experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite that potentially affect body weight and body composition. Changes in body weight and body composition may detrimentally affect their quality of life, and could potentially increase the risk of disease recurrence, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. To date, from existing single method (quantitative or qualitative) studies is not clear whether changes in body weight a

Therapists' time allocation in guided digital mental health interventions - A scoping review and case study.

BACKGROUND: Digital Mental Health Interventions (DMHIs) that include therapist support achieve higher adherence and greater effectiveness than fully self-help applications. Compared to face-to-face therapy, guided DMHIs can expand access by reducing the amount of therapist time required while still supporting a therapeutic relationship. However, "therapist time" is operationalised inconsistently. Many studies appear to report only direct patient contact (e.g., messaging, calls) or platform-based monitoring, leaving uncertainty about whether other patient-related tasks, such as documentation, a

Factors of maladaptive coping in emergency healthcare professionals: A systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Emergency healthcare professionals (EHPs) face significant occupational stressors requiring the skilled use of adaptive coping strategies. Some EHP resort to maladaptive coping (MC) strategies that negatively impact their mental health, yet MC strategies are not clearly defined in the literature. Examining factors that predispose EHP to MC can support interventions to improve coping and well-being. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review examined MC among EHP working in pre-hospital and hospital-based settings. The primary aim was to identify factors associated with MC strategies used b

"Inclusive Care" Is Not Always Affirming Care: Reflecting on Perspectives From LGBTQIA+ Consumers and Providers.

Enhancing healthcare experiences for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual and people with other diverse identities, experiences and bodies (LGBTQIA+) is a complex and evolving challenge. While policy and professional frameworks often focus on inclusive processes, LGBTQIA+ people emphasise affirming experiences, including being listened to, validated, respected, and having their lived experiences recognised, over specialised clinical expertise alone. Consumers describe affirming care as feeling seen, respected, and safe within clinical encounters, experiences that contr
