Association between intraoperative pulse pressure variation and early postoperative nausea and vomiting in major abdominal surgery: A retrospective study.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) remains a common early complication within 24-h period after general anesthesia. While intravenous fluid therapy may reduce PONV by mitigating intestinal hypoperfusion, its efficacy lacks quantifiable indicators. This study investigates the association between intraoperative pulse pressure variation (PPV), a fluid responsiveness parameter, and early PONV in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery. METHODS: This retrospective study analyzed data from 229 adult patients who underwent major abdominal surgery at a tertiary care hospital. PP

Efficacy of an intravenous acetaminophen/ibuprofen fixed-dose combination for postoperative catheter-related bladder discomfort in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy: a double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Placement of an intraoperative urinary catheter frequently leads to catheter-related bladder discomfort (CRBD) in the immediate postoperative period. We assessed the efficacy of a fixed-dose combination (FDC) of acetaminophen/ibuprofen in alleviating CRBD. METHODS: In this double-blinded, active-controlled, randomized trial, adults aged 20-79 years undergoing elective robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy were randomly assigned to one of three groups: intravenous acetaminophen 1 g/ ibuprofen 300 mg (FDC), 1 g acetaminophen alone, or 100 mL normal saline (placebo). Opioid-free anesthesia in robotic prostatectomy: pain management without transversus abdominis plane block.

BACKGROUND: Transversus abdominis plane (TAP) block is a common analgesic technique in robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (RALP). However, its necessity in the framework of an opioid-free anesthesia (OFA) strategy has not yet been evaluated. Our aim was to assess if TAP block is essential for optimal pain management under OFA strategy in RALP. METHODS: A retrospective quasi-experimental study was conducted involving 40 adult patients undergoing RALP between March 2024 and March 2025. All patients received an OFA strategy (continuous intravenous [IV] infusion of lidocaine, dex

FAD012, a Ferulic Acid Derivative, Preserves Cerebral Blood Flow and Blood-Brain Barrier Integrity in the Rat Photothrombotic Stroke Model.

Background/Objectives: The rapid progression of stroke often results in irreversible brain damage and poor outcomes when treatment is delayed. Prophylactic administration of FAD012 (3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxycinnamic acid), a synthetic derivative of ferulic acid (FA), has demonstrated cerebroprotective effects in ischemic models through antioxidant and endothelial protective mechanisms. This study investigated the effects of FAD012 on cerebral infarction and blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity using a photothrombotic stroke model in rats. Methods: Male Sprague Dawley rats received a single intrape

Preoperative Plasma p-tau231, p-tau181, and p-tau217 Are Associated With Postoperative Delirium: A Prospective Study.

BACKGROUND: The pathophysiology of delirium remains incompletely understood. The relationship between preoperative plasma concentrations of p-tau181, p-tau231, p-tau217, and T-tau proteins and postoperative delirium (POD) needs further validation. We aimed to verify whether these markers can identify and predict the occurrence and severity of POD. METHODS: 172 Older adults undergoing laparoscopic surgery were selected from a tertiary comprehensive hospital. All patients received intravenous anesthesia. Preoperative plasma concentrations of p-tau181, p-tau231, p-tau217, and T-tau proteins were

Total intravenous sedation with target-controlled infusion in dentistry: clinical experience with the third-generation Eleveld pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic model.

BACKGROUND: Approximately 31% of adults experience dental anxiety, which represents a significant barrier to timely care and ultimately results in poor oral health outcomes. Moderate sedation is an effective method of managing anxiety while preserving patient responsiveness. Total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) combined with target-controlled infusion (TCI) systems, which utilize pharmacokinetic models, enable precise control of drug delivery by maintaining stable effect-site concentrations. This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of moderate TCI-administered sedation using an Eleveld phar
