This report describes the surface architecture of leukemic cells, as seen by scanning electron microscopy in 34 patients with acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia. Six patients with myeloblastic, 4 with promyelocytic, 10 with myelomonocytic, 8 with monocytic, 4 with histiocytic and 2 with undifferentiated leukemia were studied. A novel and challenging approach for the construction of multivalent iminosugar architectures directly on calixarene scaffolds is presented, which exploits multiple cycloaddition reactions of a carbohydrate-derived nitrone on diversely functionalized calix[4]arenes. Regardless of the 4-fold reiteration on a single calixarene, the reactions take place with high regio- and stereoselectivity, demonstrating this method as an appealing one for the synthesis of calixarene-based neoglycoconjugates.

The authors have performed an experimental examination of the architecture of the bile ducts of dogs both prior to and in different terms after cholecystectomy. Along with dilation of the lumens and change of the internal relief, the proliferation of the bile ducts was found with the formation of anastomoses between them. An inflammatory reaction of the connective tissue framework of the liver, accompanying the proliferation of bile ducts is considered as a cause of painful sensations in the postcholecystectomy syndrome.
