A deep learning approach for analyzing brainwave signals during audio meditation in expectant mothers: variational mode decomposition with a CNN-BiLSTM model.

Meditation has increasingly been recognized as a helpful non-pharmacological intervention to treat psychological stress, anxiety, and depression during pregnancy-a period that plays a significant role in maternal and fetal health. Although very popular, there is very little scientific evidence on how brief audio meditation affects brain activity in pregnant women. This work reports an EEG-based method to objectively investigate the neural effect of short-term audio meditation in pregnant women with the aid of sophisticated signal decomposition and deep learning methods. Electroencephalogram (E

A transdiagnostic conflict-square algorithm: a four-node computational framework for psychotherapy and functional diagnosis.

Clinical services need more than categorical labels to guide safe dosing, maintain alliance, and plan functional recovery. The Conflict-Square Algorithm (CSA) offers a compact bedside grammar for moment-to-moment decisions during psychotherapy. Clinicians track four observable signals-defense, anxiety/affect tolerance, progression, and superego/shame-and gate intervention intensity by three safety thresholds (A-C). Each clinically meaningful moment is summarized as one auditable episode line in plain language: trigger, observable response, threshold, action, and expected functional impact (Min

Impact of stress on EEG functional connectivity during procedural learning.

OBJECTIVE: In a procedural learning environment, trainees acquire skills for managing life-threatening emergencies, a context that inherently elicits stress. While moderate stress can enhance memory consolidation, excessive stress (distress) may impair learning and performance. Here we elucidated the neurophysiological effects of stress on learners during a procedural learning task. METHODS: We examined the effects of stress on learning by assessing EEG functional connectivity (FC) in medical trainees during endotracheal intubation. The cohort comprised medical trainees who were monitored at

LeapVAD: A Leap in Autonomous Driving via Cognitive Perception and Dual-Process Thinking.

While autonomous driving technology has made remarkable strides, data-driven approaches still struggle with complex scenarios due to their limited reasoning capabilities. Meanwhile, knowledge-driven autonomous driving systems have evolved considerably with the popularization of visual language models. In this article, we propose LeapVAD, a novel method based on cognitive perception and dual-process thinking. Our approach implements a human-attentional mechanism to identify and focus on critical traffic elements that influence driving decisions. By characterizing these objects through comprehen

Outline drawing across dimensions: Recognizing minimal-information artefacts in 2D and 3D.

Human visual recognition critically depends on edge-based information, which forms the fundamental cues for identifying objects by their outlines and shapes. Where two-dimensional studies have established that line drawings enable recognition performance comparable to full-color images, the extension of these principles to three-dimensional artefacts within immersive virtual reality (VR) remains underexplored. The precise impact of 3D visualization on recognition accuracy, especially under conditions of minimal visual cues, raises unresolved questions about how the human visual system integrat

Innovation propensity as a cognitive structure that differentiates innovative farmers.

Understanding why farmers exposed to similar innovation opportunities behave differently remains an important challenge in agricultural psychology. This study introduces innovation propensity as a complementary cognitive construct describing a relatively stable yet developable orientation that predisposes individuals to engage with innovation opportunities before specific behavioural intentions emerge. A six-item Innovation Propensity Measurement Scale (IPMS) was examined using data from 545 smallholder farmers in Benin across two contrasting contexts: adoption of Sustainable Land Management p

Mind-Muscle-Environment Interactions: Psychophysiological Determinants of Optimal Pacing in Olympic Winter Endurance Sports.

Pacing is a critical determinant of performance in Olympic endurance winter sports such as cross-country skiing, biathlon, and speed skating. Although the physiological ("Движок") and psychological ("operator") determinants of pacing have frequently been examined in isolation, growing evidence highlights the need for an integrated psychophysiological perspective. This structured narrative review first outlines the defining characteristics of Olympic winter sports and, within this context, synthesizes current knowledge on the psychophysiological mechanisms governing pacing to inform optimal pre

[Multicomponent nurse-led intervention for the prevention of delirium in hospitalized frail older patients: PREDELENF study protocol].

INTRODUCTION: Due to population aging, hospital care increasingly involves a higher number of individuals with chronic conditions, frailty, and disability, who are at risk of developing geriatric syndromes and require complex management during hospitalization. Delirium is one of the most prevalent, underdiagnosed geriatric syndromes and it is associated with serious consequences in terms of morbidity, mortality, and clinical management. Despite being a potentially preventable event and an indicator of geriatric patient safety and care quality, few programs address it systematically. MATERIALS

Advancing Opioid Use Disorder Treatment: A Narrative Review of Evidence-Based Solutions to Systems-Level Barriers in the US.

BACKGROUND: Evidence-based practices to treat opioid use disorder (OUD) include behavioral interventions and medications to treat OUD (MOUD). Each type of treatment has unique systems-level challenges that limit care access and care engagement. It is important to identify and address these challenges and provide evidence-based strategies to reduce barriers. METHODS: In this narrative review, systems-level barriers that impede OUD treatment service delivery are reviewed by treatment type (MOUD, cognitive behavioral therapy, and contingency management), and how recent regulatory changes have th

Integrating social and neurobehavioral understandings of epilepsy stigma into personalized care strategies.

There is a bidirectional relationship between epilepsy-related stigma (ERS) and medical outcomes. ERS negatively influences treatment adherence and disease management, whereas insufficient medical improvement can, in turn, exacerbate ERS. ERS remains a significant challenge, often leading to delays in diagnosis, limiting appropriate therapies, and creating difficulties in social integration for patients with epilepsy. Even when treatment successfully achieves seizure cessation, failure to address ERS can limit patient social integration, reduce quality of life, and hamper long-term psychosocia

L-carnitine attenuates Aβ₁-₄₂-induced spatial cognitive deficits and hippocampal dysfunction in a rat model of Alzheimer's disease.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by cognitive dysfunction and impaired synaptic plasticity. This study evaluated whether chronic L-carnitine (LC) attenuates amyloid-beta 1-42 (Aβ₁-₄₂)-induced spatial learning and memory deficits following intracerebroventricular (ICV) Aβ₁-₄₂ infusion. Forty adult male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 10/group): Sham + Vehicle, Sham + LC, AD + Vehicle, and AD + LC. Following ICV Aβ₁-₄₂ infusion, LC (100 mg/kg/day, i.p.) or vehicle was administered for 28 days. Spatial learning and memory, h

Integrating somatic processes into schema therapy: A theoretical and clinical framework.

BACKGROUND: In recent decades, psychotherapy has shown increasing interest in the embodied aspects of psychological experience. This "body turn" reflects increasing recognition of the need to better understand individuals with complex trauma, dissociation, and personality disorders, for whom purely verbal approaches are often insufficient. Schema therapy, as an integrative model, offers a suitable framework for incorporating a somatic perspective. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to provide a systematic conceptualisation of the somatic perspective in schema therapy, situate it within a bro

No more counting sheep? Interoceptive not-distracting as a novel predictor of insomnia symptom severity in college students.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Emerging adults demonstrate vulnerability to pre-sleep arousal due to pervasive electronic device use, heightened rumination, and higher overall anxiety. To address this concern, this study sought to assess interoceptive awareness, a non-judgmental and trusting attitude toward body sensations that may reduce pre-sleep arousal, as a protective factor against insomnia symptoms during young adulthood. METHODS AND MEASURES: We assessed the association between interoceptive awareness, pre-sleep arousal, and insomnia symptom severity using cross-sectional data from university stud
