BACKGROUND: Premature ovarian failure (POF) remains a clinically challenging entity because in vitro fertilisation (IVF) with donor oocytes is currently the only treatment known to be effective.
METHODS: A 33 year-old nulligravid patient with a normal karyotype was diagnosed with POF; she had a history of failed fertility treatments and had an elevated serum FSH (42 mIU/ml). Oocytes donated by her dizygotic twin sister were used for IVF. The donor had already completed a successful pregnancy herself and subsequently produced a total of 10 oocytes after a combined FSH/LH superovulation regime.

Commonly studied nematode parasites have not proven amenable to simple genetic analyses and this has significantly reduced the available research options. We introduce here a nematode parasite of mammals, Parastrongyloides trichosuri, which has features uniquely suited for genetic analysis. AIM: Early osteoarthritis of the knee is a common consequence ofA'complete meniscectomy. In order to prevent degenerative changes, meniscus replacement by autogenous quadriceps tendon was performed from 1986 until 1999 in 45 patients. In 29 patients, a reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament was done simultaneously. Late results after surgery for acute infectious aortic endocarditis using allografts are compared with those achieved with bioprostheses or mechanical heart valves. Cryopreserved allografts were used in 74 (22%) and prosthetic heart valve in 262 out of 336 (78%) patients presenting acute aortic endocarditis.
