Efficient biogenesis of calcium oxide nanoparticles using the extract of Eleusine coracana seeds and their application against multidrug-resistant ocular bacterial pathogens.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Visual impairment due to corneal keratitis-causing bacteria is becoming a matter of health concern. The bacterial colonization and their resistance to multiple drugs need imperative attention. To overcome the issue of alternative remedial therapeutic agents, particularly for topical application, a study was carried out to synthesize calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO NPs) using the biomaterial Eleusine coracana seed aqueous extract. The biosynthesized calcium oxide nanoparticles (CaO NPs) are non-toxic or less-toxic chemical precursors. Moreover, CaO NPs are eco-friendly and are used for several

Septic Shock and Bacteremia Secondary to Herbaspirillum huttiense: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

The Herbaspirillum species are gram-negative bacteria that inhabit soil and water. Infections caused by this pathogen are an uncommon clinical entity. We describe a rare case of septic shock and bacteremia caused by Herbaspirillum huttiense in an immunocompetent adult female. The patient, a 59-year-old female, presented to the hospital with circulatory shock, fever, chills, and cough. Chest x-ray revealed right lower lobe lung consolidation consistent with pneumonia, and blood cultures with a positive concerning gram-negative curved rod which was later identified as H. huttiense. The patient w

A rapid-triggered approach towards antibacterial hydrogel wound dressing with synergic photothermal and sterilization profiles.

Developing non-antibiotic-dependent antibacterial hydrogels for repairing infected skin defect remains largely unexplored. Herein, a synergic photothermal and synergic antibacterial hydrogel was designed via one-pot approach to cope with full-thickness skin wound infection. In this work, the mixture of silver‑sodium lignin sulfonate nanoparticles (Ag-SLS NPs) and polypyrrole-polydopamine nanoparticles (PPy-PDA NPs) for the first time as synergic photothermal agent was introduced into poly (ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) to form Ag-SLS/PPy-PDA@PEGDA hydrogel. Thanks to the near-infrared li

Clinical Manifestations and Genetic Influences in Sulfonamide-Induced Hypersensitivity.

Drug hypersensitivity is an inflammatory or immune reaction induced by drugs. It can be fatal if not appropriately treated and cause the risk of long-term complications. Sulfonamides are classified as antimicrobial drugs with a broad spectrum effective for gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. This antibacterial agent works by competitively inhibiting folic acid synthesis, which prevents the growth and proliferation of microorganisms. In its use as antibiotics, sulfonamides can also cause adverse reactions in specific individuals. It has been widely reported that sulfonamide antimicrobials

The Multi-Component Causes of Late Neonatal Sepsis-Can We Regulate Them?

Elucidating the mechanisms of bacterial translocation is crucial for the prevention and treatment of neonatal sepsis. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate the potential of lactoferrin to inhibit the development of late-onset blood infection in neonates. Our investigation evaluates the role of key stress factors leading to the translocation of intestinal bacteria into the bloodstream and, consequently, the development of life-threatening sepsis. Three stress factors, namely weaning, intraperitoneal administration of Gram-positive cocci and oral intake of Gram-negative rods, were found to

Main-Chain Polysulfonium Salts: Development of Non-Ammonium Antibacterial Polymers Similar in Their Activity to Antibiotic Drugs Vancomycin and Kanamycin.

Typically, quaternary ammonium polymers are employed for antibacterial purposes. However, a century of use has led bacteria to develop resistance to such materials. Therefore, attention is now turning toward other cationic moieties. In this context, the present work explores sulfur-based main-chain cationic polymers. The results indicate that sulfonium polymers with a β-hydroxy motif do not suffer from structural instability issues as is commonly observed in cationic polythioethers. Furthermore, they can be highly effective toward important Gram-positive bacterial strains such as Mycobacterium…

Roadmap for the Management of Acute Undifferentiated Febrile Illness: An Expert Discussion and Review of Available Guidelines.

Acute undifferentiated febrile illnesses (AUFIs) are associated with specific characterizations like fever of less than two weeks' duration with no organ-specific symptoms at onset. These range from mild and self-limiting disease to progressive, life-threatening illness. Acute undifferentiated febrile illnesses are classified into malaria and non-malarial illnesses on the basis of microscopy or malariadiagnostic tests. Various challenges, such as comorbidities, geriatrics, pregnancy, and immune-compromised profile of the patient, impede the treatment regimen. Identifying the root cause of undi

How to face COVID-19: proposed treatments based on remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine in the presence of zinc sulfate. Docking/DFT/POM structural analysis.

Remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine derivatives form two important classes of heterocyclic compounds. They are known for their anti-malarial biological activity. This research aims to analyze the physicochemical properties of remdesivir and hydroxychloroquine compounds by the computational approach. DFT, docking, and POM analyses also identify antiviral pharmacophore sites of both compounds. The antiviral activity of hydroxychloroquine compound's in the presence of zinc sulfate and azithromycin is evaluated through its capacity to coordinate transition metals (M = Cu, Ni, Zn, Co, Ru, Pt). Benzydamine Reverses TMexCD-TOprJ-Mediated High-Level Tigecycline Resistance in Gram-Negative Bacteria.

Recently, a novel efflux pump gene cluster called tmexCD1-toprJ1 and its variants have been identified, which undermine the antibacterial activity of tigecycline, one of the last remaining options effective against multidrug-resistant (MDR) Gram-negative bacteria. Herein, we report the potent synergistic effect of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug benzydamine in combination with tigecycline at sub-inhibitory concentrations against various temxCD-toprJ-positive Gram-negative pathogens. The combination of benzydamine and tigecycline killed all drug-resistant pathogens during 24 h of incub

Hydrogen-producing hyperthermophilic bacteria synthesized size-controllable fine gold nanoparticles with excellence for eradicating biofilm and antibacterial applications.

Herein, we employed the hydrogen-producing hyperthermophilic bacterial strain Caldicellulosiruptor changbaiensis for preparing uniform and size-tunable gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Compared with the commonly used chemically synthesized nanoparticles, the biological synthesis of nanoparticles appears to be a suitable process since it has a low manufacturing cost of scalability, good biocompatibility, and better nanoparticles stabilization. The produced AuNPs possessed a unique property, whereby the smallest AuNPs exhibited the highest peroxidase activity over a broad pH range, even at neutral pH

Hemojuvelin regulates the innate immune response to peritoneal bacterial infection in mice.

Hereditary hemochromatosis and iron imbalance are associated with susceptibility to bacterial infection; however, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. Here, we performed in vivo bacterial infection screening using several mouse models of hemochromatosis, including Hfe (Hfe-/- ), hemojuvelin (Hjv-/- ), and macrophage-specific ferroportin-1 (Fpn1fl/fl ;LysM-Cre+ ) knockout mice. We found that Hjv-/- mice, but not Hfe-/- or Fpn1fl/fl ;LysM-Cre+ mice, are highly susceptible to peritoneal infection by both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Interestingly, phagocytic cells in the …

Ultrahigh antibacterial efficacy of meropenem-loaded chitosan nanoparticles in a septic animal model.

Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most significant health challenges worldwide. Meropenem is a broad spectrum beta-lactam antibiotic that possesses high activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. However, it has a short plasma half-life, and thus requiring frequent administration of high doses. For the first time, meropenem-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were prepared and evaluated as a potential tool to overcome antimicrobial resistance and to improve pharmacokinetics of the drug. Spherical nanosized particles were prepared and demonstrated ultrahigh encapsulation efficien
