BACKGROUND: Recommendations to prevent diabetes ulceration and amputation include an annual foot check, primarily screening for sensation and circulation. Using these simple, evidence-based components is vital to identifying complications early, assessing risk, and managing care to prevent or delay amputations. However, routine implementation of these assessments is suboptimal and approaches to their integration remain poorly understood.
AIM: We aimed to identify and synthesize information on the factors affecting implementation of simple evidence-based diabetes foot screening.

INTRODUCTION: Early detection and management of diabetic retinopathy (DR) is crucial in preventing blindness. Screening is recommended at diagnosis and yearly for Type 2 diabetes patients. DR screening using non-mydriatic fundus cameras (NMFC) has been extended to Health Clinics since 1997, but competency and experience of the medical officers (MOs) remain an issue in Primary Care. This study aims to assess the accuracy of the eye examination using NMFC for DR screening done by MOs and identify the factors associated with the accuracy.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional study us

Cervical cancer is a leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in women living with human immunodeficiency virus (WLHIV) worldwide. However, there is no nationwide public health policy in India that aims to prevent cervical cancer among WLHIV. Thus, the integration of cervical cancer preventive services within existing HIV care programs is essential. This study proposes a framework for healthcare providers and policymakers to enhance the integration of cervical cancer screening services within existing HIV care programs in India. This aims to improve access to early detection and

Using a standardized data template, this study retrospectively collected data about colorectal cancer (CRC) screening activity in 2020 and 2021 to estimate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic compared to the pre-pandemic period (2018 or 2019). Data were collected from 17 programs in 14 countries of which 15 were population-based programs. Invitation coverage was decreased by up to 53.7 % in 2020. Participation among those invited was similar in both periods for all programs. The maximum backlog in invitations was less than 7.4 months in 2020 and 3.3 months for 2021. Nine out of 15 programs obs

Experiences of interpersonal- and community-level violence are common among people with HIV (PWH) and associated with poor health outcomes, underscoring a need to implement violence screening and support in HIV care. To inform this implementation, we explored preferences of PWH regarding integration of violence screening into HIV care. From February-December 2022, 64 in-depth interviews were conducted with PWH in Atlanta, Georgia as part of a larger mixed-methods study. Participants were purposively selected for diversity of gender, race/ethnicity, violence exposure history, HIV viral suppress

OBJECTIVES: In 2021, Tennessee high school youth reported a cigarette smoking rate of 4.9% and an electronic cigarette (e-cigarette) use rate of 19%, surpassing national averages of 2.3% and 11.3%, respectively. In 2019, 15.5% of 8th- and 9th-grade youth in northeast Tennessee reported current e-cigarette use. Primary care providers (PCPs) can prevent youth tobacco initiation and promote cessation through screening and counseling, yet little is known about these services in Tennessee. This study explored the experiences of PCPs in northeast Tennessee regarding youth tobacco use screening and c

From both a social and epidemiological perspective, incarcerated individuals in Latin America face a series of accumulated disadvantages in different areas, one of them being the deterioration in their mental health linked to confinement and the negative effects of incarceration. However, since mental health evaluations at the intake phase are virtually non-existent for incarcerated populations in Chile, the diagnosis of, monitoring of, and intervention initiatives on mental health issues are very limited, thus limiting the possibilities of causal relationship analysis and evidence-based inter

A prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test is a simple blood test that is used to screen for prostate cancer. Over the last 30 years, the benefit of screening with a PSA test has been a matter of significant debate because of its association with overscreening, overdiagnosis, and overtreatment of prostate cancer. Although most prostate cancer screening guidelines recommend a shared decision-making approach between the patient and provider, these recommendations are contradictory in terms of screening initiation, frequency, and discontinuation as well as screening recommendations for high-risk popu

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is common in children with obesity and overweight. However, neither the optimal method nor risks and benefits of screening have been established. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an alanine aminotransferase (ALT)-based screening algorithm for detecting those at risk of significant fibrosis.
METHODS: Children (aged 8-18 years) with (1) obesity or (2) overweight and ≥1 additional risk factor for MASLD were included. Participants were screened for MASLD using ALT and analyzed in 4 groups based on

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. The leading risk factors for CRC include male gender, age over 50, family history, obesity, tobacco smoking, alcohol consumption, and unhealthy diet. CRC screening methods vary considerably between countries and depend on incidence, economic resources and healthcare structure. Important aspects of screening include adherence, which can vary significantly across ethnic and socioeconomic groups. Basic concepts of CRC screening include pre-stratification of patients by ident

Health economics of screening for early type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an emerging area of research. Historically, screening for early T1D has been limited to prospective cohort studies of the aetiology and natural history of the disease as well as trials of secondary prevention. In the past few years, successful large-scale studies have expanded the screening to the general population, providing data needed to estimate the cost-effectiveness of such programs and their economic viability as they become part of public health preventive services. This review covers available results of health economic

Currently, most states in the United States have enacted legislation mandating universal screening for literacy risk in kindergarten through 3rd grade. However, the degree to which these policies translate into consistent, high-quality screening practices remains unclear. In this survey study, we collected responses from a diverse sample of K-3 educators (N = 251) across 39 states, representing varied school types, professional roles, and experience levels, to examine the real-world implementation of universal screening. Guided by the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, and Sustainment (
