BACKGROUND: Arthroscopically assisted reduction and internal fixation (ARIF) allows for the assessment of joint congruity following anatomic reduction, identification of occult intra-articular lesions, and treatment of traumatic intra-articular pathologies. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to provide evidence on whether ARIF is an alternative treatment protocol for ankle fractures.
METHODS: The PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched independently by two investigators from the inception dates to October 9, 2022, for comparative studies. The risk-of-

INTRODUCTION: Zygomatico-orbital fractures are the second most common facial injuries. Trauma to mid-facial region can lead to an alteration or loss of sensation in the facial region which sometimes requires early surgical intervention to aid in an early recovery.
AIM: To evaluate the different neurosensory changes in the infraorbital nerve function following common treatment modalities used in the management of zygomatico-maxillary complex fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Thirteen patients selected for the study had unilateral zygomatic complex fracture with altered sensation in the region

BACKGROUND: Intramedullary nailing can be performed with a fracture table or manual traction. Manual traction can be applied with the patient in either the supine or lateral decubitus (LD) position. However, in either of these positions, the reduction can be difficult because the fractured extremity is not positioned parallel to the floor and the contralateral leg on the operating room table overlaps the fractured limb while the fractured extremity is in full adduction. Therefore fluoroscopy time may be increased. Accordingly, we developed a technique with the patient supine and the contralate

BACKGROUND: Previous studies on thoracolumbar fractures with neurological symptoms have focused on how to achieve satisfactory fracture reduction, adequate nerve decompression, and stable spinal alignment. With the development of the minimally invasive spine surgery technique, achieving satisfactory treatment results and reducing iatrogenic trauma at the same time has become a new goal of spinal surgery. This research used percutaneous transpedicular screw distraction to partially reduce the fractured vertebrae, followed by completing nerve decompression and reducing residual displacement bone

INTRODUCTION: fractures of the proximal phalanx of the hallux are among the most common forefoot injuries and are of significant clinical relevance due to their impact on gait biomechanics. These fractures may vary according to the mechanism of injury, the degree of articular involvement, and the associated soft tissue damage. Several therapeutic options are available, including conservative treatment and surgical management using different techniques and implants. Therefore, a review of the English and Spanish language literature published over the last 30 years regarding these fractures was

INTRODUCTION/BACKGROUND: Complex articular fractures around the knee in the elderly patient present an ongoing challenge regarding optimal treatment. While extensive research has evaluated immediate arthroplasty following fracture of the proximal femur, distal femur, proximal humerus, and elbow, relatively little focus has been given to immediate arthroplasty following complex tibia plateau fractures.
METHODS: As seen with many other fractures, arthroplasty can shorten recovery and hospital stay and allow early weight-bearing with improved mobility while minimizing complications and possible

Despite best intentions, health care disparities exist and can consequently impact patient care. Few studies have examined the impact of disparities in pediatric orthopedic populations. The current study aimed to determine if the treatment type or complication rates of supracondylar, both-bone forearm, or femur fractures are associated with race, ethnicity, sex, or socioeconomic status. The New York Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's database was used to identify all pediatric patients treated for supracondylar humerus fractures, both-bone forearm fractures, and femoral shaft fractures

INTRODUCTION: Clavicle fractures are common and have historically been managed nonsurgically. Over time, there are increasing surgical considerations for such injuries. Nonetheless, trends over the past decade are not well characterized.
METHODS: Adult patients presenting for first diagnosis of clavicle fractures were identified from the 2010 to 2020 PearlDiver M151 database. Patients were defined to have undergone surgical management if they received clavicular open reduction and internal fixation within 90 days after fracture diagnosis. Patient age, sex, Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI),

BACKGROUND: We evaluated the effect of revision with dynamic compression plate (DCP) and cancellous bone graft for aseptic nonunion after surgical treatments of humeral shaft fracture.
METHOD: Eighty-six patients with aseptic nonunion of humeral shaft fracture after various surgical treatments were reviewed and analyzed retrospectively between January 1982 and August 2006. There were 59 men and 27 women with the average age of 42 years (range, 19-81 years). Thirty-one fractures were defined as atrophic nonunion, 45 fractures were hypertrophic nonunion, and 10 fractures could not be defined cl

The purpose of this study was to prospectively evaluate the use of limited internal fixation and the application of a hybrid external fixator (tensioned wires distally and 5.0 mm half pins proximally attached to a semicircular frame without crossing the ankle joint) in the treatment of severe distal tibia fractures. This technique involves accurate reduction and fixation of the intraarticular component through an incision based over a fracture site followed by stabilization of the metaphysis with the hybrid external fixator. We studied 26 patients 15-55 years of age who were followed for 8-36

Forty-four patients who had had fifty-two calcaneal fractures were managed with open reduction and internal fixation. The results were reviewed retrospectively, between four and fourteen years after the operation, with use of an evaluation system for the hindfoot and with plain radiographs. The characteristics of the patients that were associated with an unsatisfactory outcome were an age of more than fifty years, a greater body weight, work involving strenuous labor, and increased time missed from work due to the injury. Other prognostic variables associated with an unsatisfactory result incl

Fractures of the distal metaphysis of the tibia often include an extension into the ankle. Intramedullary nailing combined with covered screw osteosynthesis should reduce the high incidence of soft tissue and ankle problems and should be an alternative to open plate fixation, with good ultimate functional outcome. Between January 1993 and December 1995, a prospective study on 49 patients with distal metaphyseal tibia fracture and involvement of the ankle was performed. All the fractures were treated with intramedullary nailing combined with covered screw osteosynthesis, and plate fixation in c

OBJECTIVE: The isolated second metacarpal base fracture-dislocations in adults are rare, and the traditional main treatments include closed reduction with the plaster or splint and open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF). However, closed reduction with the plaster or splint is not solid enough and ORIF can damage the surrounding important tissues. The purpose of this study was to explore the clinical outcomes of closed reduction and external fixation (CREF) for the treatment of isolated second metacarpal base fracture-dislocations.
METHODS: Ten patients who suffered isolated second metac

PURPOSE: The first descriptions on medial talar tubercle fractures are attributed to Cedell. He described avulsion fractures of the insertion of the posterior talotibial ligament. However the true etiology has not been established. Since little is known about these fractures, they are easily misdiagnosed as simple ankle sprains. Untreated, these fractures may lead to chronic ankle pain. To improve the understanding of the etiology and outcome of these fractures a systematic review was conducted of all cases of isolated fractures of the medial tubercle of the posterior talar process. In additio

Background Acetabular fractures, a rising concern in developing countries, pose a significant challenge due to their complexity and association with post-operative complications. Often caused by high-energy mechanisms like falls and motor vehicle accidents, these fractures require accurate reduction to prevent long-term issues and the potential need for hip replacement. This study investigates the radiological outcomes of acetabular fracture surgery at six months, focusing on the effectiveness of achieving anatomical reduction using the Matta criteria in a low-and middle-income country (LMIC)

INTRODUCTION: Long-term use of bisphosphonates (BPs) is associated with Atypical Femoral Fracture (AFF). Theoretically, periprosthetic femoral fractures (PFF) should be excluded from the diagnosis of AFF. However, recently several studies reported the occurrence of PPFs around a hip arthroplasty presenting features of an AFF. The present study describes the characteristics of Atypical Periprosthetic Femoral Fracture (APFF) and evaluates the effectiveness of their management through a PRISMA compliant systematic review of the published case reports and series.

INTRODUCTION: Talus fracture is an uncommon fracture that can be encountered on day- to- day basis. However, it is the 2nd most common tarsal bone to get fractured after calcaneum and accounts for approximately 1% of all fractures around foot and ankle. The anastomotic ring around the talar neck is highly likely to get damaged at the time of the fracture, which, in turn, hampers the blood supply to the body of talus. As a result, the bone healing is delayed and the integrity of the healed fracture is poor which leads to poor functional outcome. Almost 39% cases are missed during the initial ev

PURPOSE: Fractures of the base of the middle phalanx are particularly challenging. Dorsal fracture-subluxations/dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint are relatively common, but the volar fracture-subluxation/dislocation, the so-called "central slip fracture," is quite rare. The current study presents our experience with surgically treated patients with central slip fracture subluxation/dislocation with a minimum of 1 year follow-up. We hypothesized that the majority of patients with a central slip fracture-subluxation/dislocation have poor outcomes.
METHODS: Thirteen patien
